OvuSense Experiences

Hi everyone!

I’ve been trying to track ovulation because my cycles are super irregular and I wasn’t sure what was going on and if/when I was ovulating. I couldn’t get away with opk strips and bbt was difficult due to working with shifts so I invested in OvuSense 3 months ago since my other fertility tests were delayed due to lockdown.

First month, OvuSense didn’t detect ovulation, second month it said I ovulated on CD18 however on CD24 I had a pelvic ultrasound because my NHS tests resumed earlier than expected which showed a 20mm dominant follicle and the doctor advised I hadn’t ovulated yet. Third month OvuSense didn’t detect ovulation but my progesterone bloods at the doctors confirmed I did in fact ovulate.

I’ve emailed their clinical team who have went through all the reliability stats but I’m unsure about forking out even more money on it if it isn’t particularly accurate! I don’t know if it takes a few cycles to figure out patterns etc... or what

If anyone could share their experiences that would be great

Thank you! Smile

I’ve only used it for one full cycle and it did identify ovulation. But I don’t really like the app. It’s pretty basic and not that easy to add/see other information. I put the data into the Fertility Friend app as well which said my ovulation was a day earlier. No idea whether either of them was right of course but you could try using one of the other apps as well and seeing if that works out better.

I have been using Ovusense for over a year now. If you wanted to post your charts for each cycle I'd be happy to look and try to help?

I have PCOS so have long cycles and don't ovulate. I've had confirmed ovulation once. All the rest have been anovulatory cycles.

Do you have a diagnosis of the underlying problem?.

It seems to be just another version of temp charting and that is beset with problems anyway. Such things are not at all worth using if the menstrual cycle is irregular so I would not use it any longer. I would try and have blood tests and internal ultrasound scans done monthly as these would give you an accurate picture of your hormone levels.

Thank you @YouBoggleMyMind I’ll see if I can figure out how to upload them!

@AttilaTheMeerkat not officially, I thought I may have PCOS with my cycle lengths varying so much but all the tests got postponed due to lockdown which is when I ordered OvuSense because they said it was suitable for PCOS. As it happens, my hormone levels are normal bar a borderline testosterone result and my scan showed no cysts etc.. I think you’re right about scans/bloods, my fertility consultation is the 7th September so I’m assuming they’ll run further tests anyway. It’s just slightly annoying spending all that money on something marketed for irregular cycles but then getting contradictory information. I had hoped to have a few months of charts to take to the consultant but they don’t seem accurate enough to bother. Such is life I guess Grin

Feel free to screen shot your charts and upload them here as photos if you want me to take a look.
