High Fsh?

Hi everyone I've recently had a blood test at my gps. She advised that all levels were normal. However, when I looked into my results, my fsh was 13.8 which seems quite high from what I've read? I now feel a bit worried, can anyone advise? I'm 37. Thanks

I think generally they like it to be under 10. However from what I’ve read FSH can actually fluctuate each month. Also AMH and AFC are meant to be better indicators of ovarian reserve. X

Yes it’s high. GPs don’t know much about FSH unfortunately. My GP told me that mine was normal when it was 12. Iuckily I knew that it wasn’t.

10 or under is meant to be normal. However - that doesn’t necessarily tell you everything on its own.

What it does suggest is that you have low ovarian reserve, but that doesn’t mean it’s not possible to conceive. Fluctuating levels aren’t helpful because even if it goes down again, the fact you get one high reading still suggests low ovarian reserve.

You could get the amh test for a better indicator of what’s going on. Although again, even if you have low amh, on its own, it’s not a complete barrier to conception. If causes the most issues if you are heading for Ivf because it suggests you might not respond well to the drugs (nothing is guaranteed though).

What day of your cycle was the test done on? You can only really interpret FSH result if the test was done day 2-5 of your cycle.

Under 10 is normal and yours is slightly raised but only if it was done day 2-5 of your cycle. You also need to have an oestradiol level done at the same time to interpret your FSH though.
