Manchester Fertility Clinic - Cheadle Royal

Hi guys,

We haven't had any NHS treatment yet. We're booked to go to the Manchester Fertility Clinic at Cheadle Royal to do some tests and then we'll proceed from there. Has anyone ever been there and got any feedback? We can't go and visit like normal because of Covid. So everything has been via phone and online and I feel a bit sad I can't get the experience of going and looking to decide.

Hi, we’ve had all of our fertility tests done there this year. I’ve just had my HyCoSy on Friday with them.

We haven’t had NHS either, I have a referral pending at Aintree in Liverpool but the wait times just don’t work for us so we’re going private completely now.

I really like Manchester, the staff are fantastic and so friendly. All of them keep you at ease and even when they ring or you need an appointment they are really good. I’ve not felt uncomfortable during any of my procedures, no pain at all and neither had my husband. The only reason we are going to look at one more clinic is travel time to the clinic. They are clear when exposing your next steps as well and I’ve found they don’t force IVF on you straight away, they discuss everything and help you make an informed choice (but that’s just my view).

Good luck with everything

Thank you so much @Itstime1 for your reply. How did you find the zoom call discussing your results? Do they give you any indication during your pelvic scan of any results at all? I'm a bit nervous about cost. We're doing the fertility mot for £395 but worried I'll need the HyCosy on top which is another £400ish. Already adding up without treatment. I'm also slightly worried about pain with the HyCosy because I struggle to tolerate my smear tbh.

We had our tests in March and then lockdown happened so our results appointment was over zoom. It was fine, they answered all the questions we had so we didn’t really notice it was over zoom!

That’s exactly what we had done, the scan is actually interesting and I spent most of it looking at the screen so didn’t feel awkward. The worst was the bloods but I hate needles, they were so good with it.

HyCoSy didn’t hurt me at all, i felt the pressure of the liquid and a slight cramp but it went away straight away, more feeling the effects now after it (spotting and antibiotics). To be honest I found it much better than my smear! My nurse for my smear was horrible and it was horrid enough to put you off going for life (especially as it was my first one!) but the HyCoSy? They are really good at their jobs and I had no problems with it, could see it all on the screen and even when there’s a problem, they talk you through it (mine showed one clear and one blocked).

It does start to add up a bit but I’m always in the case of I would rather know. I think it’s been 100 worth the cost and the level of care so far, as I said if I do move clinics for distance purpose I will be slightly gutted as they are so nice at Manchester!

We had treatment there over the past few years, although I had my son in August so haven't been during lock down. We had both NHS treatment and private after our NHS attempts failed. I was always very happy with the staff and clinic. They are great at keeping you informed, always called when they said they would. I never felt pushed into anything and they did not go for IVf as an immediate option, tried cheaper less invasive options first. I genuinely felt they always did what the best option would be rather than try to sell things. And there was no difference at all between the NHS and private treatment. The clinic feels nice and friendly. It's quite small. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to try and help as we spent a lot of time there!

Vea1601 · 05/07/2020 21:05

Thanks @Brunilde for your reply. I guess I was just scared they'd "upsell" us to ivf... I'm also worried about the costs of extra medication. But I'm reassured if you didn't feel pressured. The Dr were meant to be seeing is a Dr David Robertson

I don't think he was there when we were having treatment. We saw Dr Rao who was lovely. After some of our failed cycles she mentioned they have weekly meeting where they will discuss some cases and the best treatment options so I think whoever you see they all have a similar process and draw on each others expertise.

I've just had my internal ultrasound and blood tests there. All normal so now waiting on a hycosy. Everything went well and the staff are nice. Only thing was I wasn't sure if I was getting a bit of a 'hard sell'. Anyone else experienced this?

Vea1601 · 07/07/2020 21:41

Hi @Luce89 thanks for the reply. What did you feel was the hard sell? We're not booked in until 3rd August. Due my period around 27th so wanted to wait and see one final time (not sure why!! This will be the 19th month). I'm worried they'll say I need a HyCosy too and that's so much more money...

@Vea1601,
I know this is a super old post but I just wondered how you got on. I’m hoping to book for a fertility MOT at the Manchester fertility clinic.

Vea1601 · 15/02/2021 20:26

Hi @Egghatcher I did the MOT and got the results but hated the clinic. Had a bad experience with them and they were just frustrating from start to finish. I joined their patient Facebook page and lots of similar stories to mine. But there are a few positives on there.

That being said, I got the results and it led me to seek IVF. I went to CARE Manchester for the IVF and I'm now 17+5 pregnant. Good luck! X

Oh wow, that’s amazing news @Vea1601. Congratulations.

We’ve been referred via the NHS to a local hospital but it’s a phone consultation and as we won’t be eligible for funded IVF, it doesn’t seem worth waiting. Did you rate the service at care over Manchester fertility?

Many thanks for answering my questions and congratulations again Smile

Vea1601 · 15/02/2021 21:24

No problem at all @Egghatcher

I totally remember what it was like and it's so hard to see the wood for the trees at times.

I had amazing care at CARE, excuse the pun! From start to finish. Their admin and nurse teams were amazing. The organisation and communication was much better than at Manchester Fertility. I had my tests and consultation and we decided on IVF. My period was due 10 days later. And some how they got my protocol and meds to me for me to start that very month. It was a miraculous turn around and they weren't bothered by my constant mithering! I'm not sure if CARE do MOT'S as such but worth checking it out. I don't regret the MOT at Manchester fertility as it identified a problem we didn't know we had and it sped things up for us. X

CARE sound great. I’ll give them a ring tomorrow and ask about the MOT.

The whole thing is such a minefield but I need to feel like I’m being proactive. I was pregnant last year and was caught really quickly but I sadly had a late miscarriage. Something has definitely changed since then. I’ve had bloods done at the GP which were fine but DP’s SA showed some motility issues.

You’ve been really helpful. Thank you again x

XjustagirlX · 29/03/2021 14:58

@Vea1601 hi sorry to bring up an old thread. I’m looking for recurrent miscarriage testing in manchester and I came across this thread.

I have spoken to care and manchester fertility. Manchester Fertility have been clear with the costs of the RM tests but care have said I can’t have the tests with them unless I go for ivf. And I don’t want ivf yet. My doctor will be referring me to care for ivf eventually which I’m fine with because I’ve heard great things but in the meantime I’m only interested in the RM tests.

I’m just curious why you didn’t like manchester fertility? I’m considering MF for the RM tests and then care for ivf if I need it.

TIA

Vea1601 · 29/03/2021 15:02

Hi @XjustagirlX

It was mainly communication issues. The admin side was atrocious and they genuinely didn't care when I complained. I also found the doctor I saw patronising and just horrible. However he's just 1 doctor and there are lots there. Additionally, they do have good reviews in general so it may just be that I had a series of calamities. It was during their initial reopening after the first lock down so maybe they were struggling? Good luck xxx

Hi, sorry for asking on an old thread. I’m also looking at fertility tests/MOT at either Manchester Fertility or Care. Care is more than £100 more for the same tests but wondering if it’s worth it if they’re much better to deal with.

@Vea1601 Were you able to take your results from Manchester Fertility to Care for your treatment or did you have to re-do all the tests?

Vea1601 · 22/04/2021 17:38

Hi @rk47 no problem! They accepted my bloods and husbands semen sample but redid the scans on me x

Thank you so much for getting back to me.
Hope you had a successful journey Smile

Vea1601 · 22/04/2021 18:06

I did. I'm actually just a bit teary looking at my stomach moving. 27 weeks. CARE looked after my exceptionally well and I'm very overwhelmed with it all. I wish you so much luck on your journey xxx
