Low progesterone levels- positive opk

Hi all,

I'm after some advice and expertise to anyone who has been through, or is in, a similar situation to me!
I've been TTC for a year and had a MC in jan. in January my HCG levels were 'the lowest she'd ever seen' (the midwife) and I miscarried a few days later.
We have since been TTC with no luck. Tracking cycles, using CB OPK's, conceive plus, vitamins, the whole lot.
I had my 21 day bloods on Tuesday and I got a call from the GP saying my levels were too low (3) and I said that I got a static smiley on the OPK on Mon- therefore it was possible I hadn't ovulated yet and so could it be normal for them to be low. She said no and basically said that wouldn't impact it- but reading up on it it sounds like you need bloods 7dpo which for a 'normal' cycle is 21- clearly not in line with my long cycles.
They've just done a referral for my OH to have semen Analysis and have said I 'just need to wait'.
Any advice?! I'm so confused on whether I'm actually ovulating or what is going on. Please help anyone 😫
I'm 28 and TTC baby number 1.
Thank you x

How long are your cycles? The cd21 test should be done 7 days before your period arrives. I have shorter cycles, so went on cd19. Are your periods regular?

It might be worth seeing if you can try again with the blood test. If you want to check if you're ovulating you could start measuring your basal body temperature as opks only confirm you're having a lh surge. You need a thermometer that measures 2 decimal places and check it first thing everyday before you move / get up.

I'm sorry for your loss too. I've had 3, it's really tough ❤️

Hi @VenusStarr , thank you for your response. My periods were always regular 32 day cycles but since the mc I've had 28 days, 45 days, 36 days... there's no pattern or consistency at all.
I have read about temping so will get a thermometer and see if I can spot ovulation, thank you!
Sorry to hear about your Mc's, they're so awful 😞 hoping you get baby dust soon if you haven't already 👶🏻 xxx

Thank you @chasingmyrainbow, still trying! I've been prescribed cyclogest to try from 7dpo as there are no answers for my miscarriages. We're going to try that for a couple of cycles and then hopefully have a round of IVF.

The book taking charge of your fertility is really helpful about measuring your temperature - I got a second hand copy for about £2 on Amazon. I've got used to doing it now, it was a bit obsessive when I first started - try not to analyse your charts once ovulation is confirmed. It's helpful to see when I ovulate and how long my luteal phase is.

Good luck x

I have low progesterone and irregular cycles. It's really hard to make sure you rest on the right day when you've got that because it has to be 7 days before the period, as the other poster said, but we never really know when the period is coming! In the end I did day 21 at the hospital and then I bought finger prick blood tests off the internet (forth with life / thriva) and did extra tests throughout the month. To be honest mine never got over 30 which is where it's meant to be. In the end they gave me a trigger shot to make the egg come out and then cyclogest to boost the progesterone. You have to know you've ovulated before you take cyclogest as if you take it too early it stops you ovulating. It is SO confusing when you don't know how long your cycle is or when you're ovulating! Temping is a good idea
