Endless spotting...

This is the first time I have had the courage to post. I will try my best not to write an essay here but I am desperate to see if anyone else has a similar experience to me.

After coming off the pill (took it for over 10 years) my periods have never been normal. I can spot for up to 10 days or more before I get a proper flow which then last only two days max, then I will spot for a few days afterwards. The spotting varies in colour and consistency, some days it’s heavy and others I think it’s going away. It literally can change with each visit to the loo! Usually only when I wipe. It affects my mentally so much.

My partner and I have actively been trying to conceive for the last 4 years. I have been able to fall pregnant twice but have sadly miscarried each time around 6 weeks. Never heard a heartbeat.

I have seen numerous doctors both normal gps and NHS fertility doctors and no one can explain the spotting. Everyone tells me it shouldn’t affect fertility but I am not so sure.

I’ve had the day 21 test for low progesterone done and got a good result but this was while I was taking Clomid so I don’t know if that affects it in any way.

After recently loosing our second baby, we have decided to go private and have our first consultation in two weeks time for possible treatment, most likely IVF.

Should I be pushing for more tests than I have had already in relation to the spotting or am I naive in thinking the private clinic will do tests or take my history into account when tailoring my treatment?

I’ve had numerous scans, swabs, bloods and the dye test on my tubes all of which come back clear.

It’s been a very emotionally draining 4 years which is still very much inking. Hoping that with seeking further help it will bring us a positive outcome. Would love to hear others advice or similar experiences. I will be 33 this year and my partner has just turned 36.

Thanks for listening

I also have spotting for a weekish before I'm due on also changes colour / consistency and never got to the bottom of it, it doesn't seem to be something the doctors are overly concerned about !

If you going private, request a copy of all your notes / test results you have had through the NHS to provide at your consultation.

I'm currently with Create started IVF in March just before lock down got to egg collection and choose to freeze, have restarted treatment and having FET on Monday.

I'm classed as unexplained, but my egg count is low, progesterone test came back low, my womb lining also was thin, I've had lots of scans over the course of 6 months , bloods, and also hycosy though the NHS also paid for the AMH test.

I had no further tests with Create as NHS had advised IVF

Hope that helps a little

Thanks very much for responding, I really appreciate it.

Sometimes I think it would be easier if they could just say this is what is causing it as the unknown can drive you crazy at times! Other times I’m grateful nothing sinister has been confirmed. It’s just a minefield!

Thanks for the advice on the NHS notes, that’s a good idea and I will definitely be sure to do it! I am hoping that I will feel better after my consultation.

Best of luck with the rest of your treatment, I hope it all goes well Flowers

Yes I think sometimes been given a reason helps with mentally accepting the situation, we have been trying for 3 years with no luck & without being given a definitive reason it's hard to accept and taken me around 15 months from being advised IVF to start looking at actually doing it (don't qualify for NHS) it's been a difficult few years
Best of luck to you
