Advice - IVF or keep on going?

So to cut a long story short...
TTC #2 for 9 months. First child conceived reasonably quickly. I’m 36 so after a fruitless 6 months got tests underway especially as I had noticed a reduced cycle length and short luteal phase. Tests show clear apart from an elevated FSH level of 12.4 (shit!!!).
Having been told by the NHS things could take ages and I wouldn’t be eligible for treatment anyway (just investigations) I had a private consultation.
The up shot of that is they have given a 1 in 10 chance of falling pregnant naturally and a 30-35% chance of successful IVF. I’m having a scan and AMH test next week.
So obviously I need the results back from these other tests but is that it - would you be preparing yourself for IVF?
Really struggling to process it all but also very much want a second child (whilst feeing incredibly lucky that I have one!).
Any thoughts appreciated!

Keep trying naturally and also proceed with IVF - your best chance. It takes a while to get consultations etc out the way. 1 in 10 chance is pretty good I think. That means that you could probably get pregnant after ten months?!? That’s the way I read it. I depends how quickly you want another? Do everything you can to get what you want therefore no regrets. Good luck x

Thanks @bluebabydinosaur. The 1 in 10 thing was over 12 months I think though I’ve looked at the consultation letter and it’s a bit vague. Certainly something to confirm!
If it was monthly I think I’d feel more optimistic! You’re right, I’ll keep going and keep everything crossed.
Thanks very much for your input!

Was your FSH done on day 2-5 of your cycle? And do you know what your oestradiol done at the same time was?

Kitte321 · 07/06/2020 16:28

Hello @EarlGreyT sadly it was - day 3. Oestradiol was 166. Progesterone 5dpo was 41

Ok, just wondered in case it wasn’t done on the right day which would change my advice.

I’ll caveat what I’m going to say with the fact that you’ve posted on the infertility board, therefore my advice (and that of other posters here) is probably skewed by the fact that we are infertile and our experiences as a result of this. I am also posting with the benefit of hindsight of my own long and difficult experience of infertility and treatment. If I’d been asked the same thing at the start of my “journey” (a horrible phrase but I can’t think of a better one), I suspect my answer would be different from the one I’m giving you.

I had primary rather than secondary infertility and a similar FSH level at the same age as you so I would say start preparing for IVF. Time isn’t on your side, although a few months isn’t going to make any difference, but I don’t think I’d try naturally for much longer than that. Although like I say, my advice is definitely shaped by my own experience and I can’t be very objective.

Thanks @EarlGreyT and I’m very sorry that you've had such a difficult road. I very much hope that you had a positive outcome.
I agree that time is not on my side - as a previous poster said if I try and things don’t go as I hoped at least there are no regrets.
Thanks again.
