Working a high risk job while undergoing IVF

Hi all,

New to mumsnet! I am just wandering if anyone has any experience/ advice about working with IVF. I am a Dental nurse, which is now ranked number 1 on the riskiest jobs to catch COVID-19, and am due to have my FET when my clinic re opens. I am wandering if now is the time to change career paths as we all know how precious this journey is. I have always been slightly worried that this line of work is more risky in pregnancy but even more so now with the pandemic. Would appreciate any feedback thanks :-)

Maybe it's just at my dentist but the dental nurses don't come anywhere near me and just sit in the room writing the notes and passing the dentist things - I don't think it's the time to be pursuing a career change - dental nurses are going to be pretty immune to redundancies in a recession and also you'd have to work somewhere for a year or two to be able to get enhanced maternity rights.

I'd do the IVF first and then speak to them about a less face to face role if that is what you do normally?

My employer has been really really kind and said I do not have to return until after FET.

I understand not all employers can do this my my clinic advised to reduce face to face contact as much as possible.

@jax1235 sending you a virtual hug 💗 as this must be stressful for you.

I’m in the same situation ☹️ Very nervous about having the conversation with my employer but hopefully they will be understanding x

Yeah definitely worth being open and honest with them. If anything then maybe you can have time off around embryo transfer xxx

Sending love to you @JandL2020 💗

Hope so. I’m happy to take annual leave but I know I’ll need to be non clinical for that time. Sending love to you all too xx

Thank you @UncleBrynsfishingtrip it is very stressful as yes when performing routine appointment nurses just take records and assist. But it’s the aerosols from procedures that cause the danger as they stay in the air for a prolonged time and you are just breathing that in at times that you don’t have a mask on. Practices are obviously getting the right PPE in but as you all know we may only have 1 shot at this and I don’t want to risk it. Even if we are successful 🤞🏻 I am worried about the whole pregnancy there Confused
I only get stat maternity pay where I am anyway so won’t loose any benefits there, it’s just such an uncertain time... but just have to think what is more important?
Good luck @JandL2020 with your conversation x
