Anyone else nervous about second pandemic during treatment?

I’m due to start ivf round two end of next month and will have two weeks stimming before egg collection which I anticipate second week of July. I’m starting to feel nervous that given irresponsibility of this government we may have new wave of pandemia. We are already bit nervous travelling for scans but given I’m 42 feel like risk to take as we were meant to start in March but held off in case clinics went in lockdown

I don't think the government has necessarily been Irresponsible - we are reporting the highest deaths because I know for a fact that any death that occurs outside of hospital and there is a positive covid test whether or not they actually died of the virus they are told if it's reported as such then they can get on with burials or wait weeks for a post mortem report etc. Other countries don't report this way.

We couldn't have had a harsher lockdown as look how little it was followed after the initial couple weeks as it is.

The government is advised by medical experts - and respond accordingly. The medical advice even to this day is conflicting so no wonder the government isn't seen to be getting it right

BUT what we do have is one of the most generous financial support packages of any country for this furloughed etc

Politics aside the risk is during pregnancy still isn't proven - no more than catching flue is anyway?
I can understand nervousness about travelling for scans but cant you drive to reduce the risk?

The virus is always going to be with us in some way so no point putting lives on hold more than they have been

We don’t have a car, never been a need whilst living in London. My nervousness is more about me starting treatment using my £2.5k worth of meds to be told we are back in lockdown and my collection being cancelled!

I can't see us going back into lockdown - for the simple reason that there would be anarchy - at some point we have to get back to "normal" life - the most vulnerable are those in their 70s-80s and they won't sacrifice the economy and the millions of working age taxpayers for them. Also it wasn't the government which stopped treatment it was the HFEA which came under such criticism that I don't think they'll do it again

It is a risk of course but could you speak to your clinic for their opinion on what would happen? My clinic would charge abortive costs for the cycle if I caught the virus but they were one of the few clinics during lockdown which completed existed treatment rather than cancelled mid way through so I know they'd complete the cycle including transfer

Hi @Kitkat369 you need to ask your clinic what their plan is.
I don't think another lockdown is the main risk re treatment cancellation.
Any clinic with any credibility wil cancel egg collection if you test positive for Covid-19, in order to protect staff and other patients.

I had egg collection cancelled in March but slightly different in that I was due to travel abroad so still have some usable medication left, but yes over £1k out of pocket.
It's rubbish and there is a risk of another cancellation if I get coronavirus before egg collection. But I won't choose to wait indefinitely. I will do all I can to stay safe from coronavirus up until egg collection.

Ultimately your risk assessment will be down to you. Would you consider hiring a car from a few days before you'll need to travel to the clinic, disinfect and use that as your transport if you don't want to use public transport?
Or maybe you will decide to wait a bit.

I'm not being flippant, I know another cancellation would affect me greatly but the waiting isn't a great option either!
Good luck whatever you decide.

I have been worried about another lockdown too. I've still not heard from my clinic about starting treatment and I'm concerned that by the time I get the go ahead, the clinic will close again and I'll have to wait even longer. I'm 43, and although I am doing DE it's not clinically urgent, it's urgent for me as I don't want to be much older to try.
I am not too concerned about covid-19 as I'm pretty certain I've already had it, and there is suspicions that it was the cause of my recent stillbirth.

Cleozeta- I’m so sorry to hear of your recent loss. Hopefully it won’t come to another lockdown.

@Cleozeta sorry to hear your sad news. 💐
Will your doctor or clinic arrange an antibody test for you?
I can understand your own sense of urgency, perhaps contact the clinic for a time line if you feel it would help.
