So I’m currently under a fertility clinic that have put me on Clomid . My first round i had success. But it ended up being ectopic 😩 I have had my right tube removed. My period has yet to arrive again . I also have pcos. Would i be able to ask for ivf ? Or will the dr have to say when ? I’ve been told I can have one round on the nhs, then will have to pay . Thankyou

Unfortunately the clock "resets" when you've had a positive test whether or not you make it to have a healthy baby so if you are under 35 a GP won't refer you for fertility treatment until you've tried for 12 months from the date of the ectopic or 6 months if you are over 35

Since you are on clomid already presumably you are seen by a fertility clinic? In which case I guess you'd need to request that they make the referral for more intensive fertility treatment ie IVF

Referral times can vary but when we were referred for IVF via the NHS it was almost a year to get to the point we could actually start and it's likely to be longer at the moment with everything that's been going on (I did fall pregnant with a DD that month so didn't end up needing it)

I’m under a fertility clinic yes . I’ve been ttc for 5 years . First time I got pregnant it was an ectopic 4 months ago . I’ve not had a period since . Due to my pcos? Do you think it’s worth asking ?? X

Yes @lifesforloving1, I would ask. I think the reset is looked at slightly differently by different Trusts, I fell naturally pregnant while under an NHS fertility clinic but unfortunately miscarried and they just carried on from where we were pre-miscarriage, it did not change or delay my treatment options. I would ask, the worst that can happen is that the clinic say 'no, wait another 6 months' but if you don't ask, they will assume you are happy with your current treatment.

@pinktruffle
I will ask and see what they say . Like you said the worst they can say is no, sorry to hear you miscarried . The dr said to me if no luck within 5 months , he will look into different opinions . I don’t know if this would change now as I did get pregnant but I had an ectopic . I will just see what they say ... Thankyou xx

Sorry to hear your story. If you go private then they probably wouldn’t say no to IVF. I know women who have conceived naturally with one tube so there’s always hope there x

@JandL2020
Thankyou for you’re reply , the criteria said I would get one round on the nhs ? Then I would have to go privet 🙄 that’s hopeful for me then . I will ring soon and just ask ? xx

As long as you don’t mind waiting x

Lifesforloving1 · 23/05/2020 18:56

@JandL2020 ,
Well , I do mind waiting , I’ve been waiting 5 years to get pregnant ... when I finally did I get an ectopic . But I know a lot of people also also having awful times too. I will carry on for the next 5 months with Clomid and then see what the next plan is . xx

@JandL2020
I know ivf appointments do take a while , about a year or so ? x

I feel for you it’s an unfair process especially as you’ve trying for so long. I’m not sure about IVF I’ll find out after my consultation. I think one cycle takes 7 weeks depends if it’s long or short x

@JandL2020
Thanks so much . x

I do short protocol and the whole Process is 2 weeks.

But NHS wait times are long - up to 12 months and probably longer at the moment

I'd ask your doctor why they waited this long to refer you and went for clomid - most people move into IVF within a year or 2 rather than 5 years x

Lifesforloving1 · 26/05/2020 13:53

@ivfgottostaypositive

What’s Protocol ?
I think the plan is to do Clomid for 6 months then look into having ivf . It’s taken longer for me as the first 3 years I was unable to get pcos diagnosed .

I’ve had a battle with it all ...

@Lifesforloving1

Protocol just means the type of IVF - there is long protocol which is favoured by most clinics and is the most well known - you take drugs to basically put you in menopause and switch your ovaries off. (Called down regging) Then you take more drugs to switch them on full blast to make as many follicles grow as possible. Whole process is about 6 weeks and can take longer to get your period back afterwards which effects how quick you can do multiple cycles

Then there is short protocol - often lower dose drugs but not always. You don't down reg. you call the clinic when you get your period and start drugs on a Certain cycle day - take drugs for less than 14 days usually and then have egg collection. You CAN get fewer numbers of eggs BUT i did 2 cycles of that last year and got the same number of eggs as my friends on long protocol

Then there is natural modified which I'm currently doing - even less drugs - often just injections every OTHER day rather than daily. Target much fewer eggs but for me the quality is significantly higher. Hardly any clinics offer this though

Depends on what you want really - also age is a factor and AMH (hormone indicator of how many follicles/eggs you are likely to get and declines with age).
