Letrozole Advice

Hello lovely ladies,
I've just had a really good private appointment re secondary infertility. My consultant is happy for me to go on letrozole and I'm due to start taking the first prescription in a month. Trying not to get my hopes up but feels so good to be moving down a path that might hopefully lead to another healthy baby!
I just wanted to ask if anyone had any experiences of letrozole? Looking for positive and negative stories! And if anyone had any tips and tricks for preparing my body for what's to come?
Thank you all!

Hi, I've taking Letrozole for 6 months no Bfp but it is a good drug. Ovulation came as clockwise and no side effects at all. Good luck!

I'm starting this tomorrow for the first time so would also like to know if anyone has tried it. I initially asked my fertility doctor about clomid but they said that can thin the uterine lining whereas Letrozole doesn't.

Tulpabean · 22/06/2020 00:48

I've just finished 7 cycles of it. First time TTC, have PCOS, never had a BFP, 2 years 4 months of trying.
It's not worked for me. My cycles became slightly shorter on average, but on the whole still long, and I had bloods for 2 of my cycles which showed I had ovulated. I wanted to be put up a dose to really give me normal length cycles, but they wouldn't because I was confirmed ovulating.
I'm now waiting to start IUI which I think is a bit of a leap considering they haven't even tried upping my dose. I'm with the NHS.
Side effects - I had hot flushes on the days I was taking the pills and headaches the few days after I stopped, that was it.

I've been taking Letrozole for 6 months, 2.5mg day 3-7. My clinic didn't offer clomid either, they said it can cause severe side effects including thin lining. Best of luck X

Hi all, feeling really deflated. I went to have a tracking scan just now. Today is day 12 of my cycles and there were tons of tiny follicles, and one 9.1mm follicle.
What should the dominant follicle be measuring on day 12? I'm waiting to hear back from my consultant re next steps, but do you think I should say I want to be put on a higher dose of Letrozole? Or do you think I might be having a longer cycle?
Really confused, and sad!

Hi @Rg1987
I don't think there is a golden rule in regards the folli size on day 12. Think of your first few cycles as trials as everybody is different they need to see how you react to meds so they can adjust it.
Did you start with the lowest dose?

Rg1987 · 22/06/2020 13:57

Thanks @chicasimona
Yes, my consultant started me on the lowest (2.5mg) so I'm guessing she'll suggest 5mg? Should I push for a higher dose than that? Just feel like I've wasted one as she wants me to have six cycles max.

I wouldn't say it's wasted until you get confirmation you haven't ovulated. It's still early in your cycle. That follicle might grow a good bit over the next few days. If you ovulated today you'd be working out around a 26 day cycle, maybe even shorter than that, so it still is early on.

Chicasimona · 22/06/2020 14:24

Hi @Rg1987
6 months is standard what the clinics suggest, Letrozole is much better than clomid so you can take it longer than 6 months don't worry about that. Leave it with your consultant they know what is best for you. As letrozole can cause fibroids we cannot take random doses. Be patient they will find the right

Rg1987 · 22/06/2020 14:26

thanks @chicasimona
definitely need to work on my patience :)

Hi all,
Could anyone help me with reading an OPK. Does this look positive to you? It's definitely darker than the last few days.
thank you!

You are very close to a positive, try to test in a few hours and tomorrow morning so your test line is same or darker thank the control line.

Hi @Chicasimona Sorry as I know this post is a little old! I have been on letrozole 5mg for two cycles. Currently in the 2WW of my second cycle and had some random bleeding on CD19. I wasn't aware that letrozole can cause fibroids, is this likely to be the cause of my mid cycle bleeding?
