Embryo testing

Hi all I just wondered does anyone have an experience of PGT A testing for embryos. Do people think it is worthwhile? And also worth the expense? I think I'm just frustrated waiting so I'm looking for anything I can do to feel like I am doing something maybe. But I just wondered if anyone had done it before. Thank you.

Hi didnt want to read and run, i looked at it but then we just couldnt afford it. I think if you can afford it then look into it.

i have seen some people storys of success after having this as only sure way to know if the embryos are genetically ok

I did it on Cycle 2 - I haven't bothered doing it again.....

We only did it due to a history of recurrent miscarriages and it was sort of a last test we could do after everything else was ruled out. I got 2 blastocysts to test and being aged 36 was expecting a 50% normalcy - well both came back abnormal. One was complex abnormal which legally not allowed to transfer in the U.K. and the other a mosaic which we did decide to transfer and it was a BFN

I'm a member of lots of PGS groups and in the USA where you can transfer abnormals lots of women have healthy pregnancies which shows the embryo can self correct. But in the U.K. you could end up with nothing to transfer if all come back abnormal

I would only do it under these circumstances

  • you had 5 or more day 5 blastocysts to test
  • you were older (40+) and had at least 5 blastocysts but only intended on having one child as odds are you might just get one to transfer but at least chance of success would be high

My clinic put Chance of a successful pregnancy at 80% with a PGS tested normal pregnancy

Also please be aware it's not 100% accurate which is why it has been downgraded by the HFEA

They only take cells from the outer layer which will become the placenta - 5 cells out of a possible 100 so it's very easy to just so happen to pick 5 normal cells or 5 abnormal ones which aren't reflective of the rest of the 95 cells

As they only take from the placenta cells and not the baby there is no guarantee that the baby cells aren't normal or abnormal
