Has anyone’s fertility clinic told them they will close due to Coronavirus? I’m due to start treatment and now confused as what to do or whether I’ll be able to start. Thanks.

I just called my fertility clinic and as it is based in a hospital they're waiting to be told when they can open again and the 11th of May date doesn't apply to them. I get it, of course, but it's frustrating. I can't start clomid until I can get a follicle tracking scan so I'm on a list to be called when they can do scan appointments again... sigh.

MrsLouB · 06/05/2020 13:31

Hi all just an update ive had my consultant today in line to go with our 3rd cycle and the consultant in his opinion said that although can apply to re open from 11th may they have been known to drag their heels he said best case we could start eds on next cycle ie 21st May for FET in June worse case July. But we would now be on the ready to go list and would be called as soon as they get the go ahead

Jacky83 · 06/05/2020 13:59

@CritterTamer I'm waiting to go to CRGW too. We're meant to be having a telephone consultation to discuss our treatment plan. Good to get a vague idea of start dates from your post.

Leala20 · 06/05/2020 14:43

I am using 400mg ccq10, vitamin D, multivitamin and follic acid but not DHEA. I have been taking them for 3 months now. Do you think DHEA is effective?

Wesstywoo · 06/05/2020 15:17

@Leala20 DHEA is not suitable for everyone and should only be taken with consultant advice dependant on your circumstances. My previous clinic told me to take it as I have low AMH. It didn't make a difference to me unfortunately, however that is not the case for everyone so perhaps discuss with your consultant before taking it

LondonIVF12 · 06/05/2020 16:19

@leala20

@ wesstywoo

It depends on your results. Here is a link to all the peer reviewed articles on DHEA summarised which I found really useful to critic and make my decision. itstartswiththeegg.com/dhea_studies/

Would recommend the book from the same website.

HJF84 · 06/05/2020 18:39

@ivfgottostaypositive Which Create clinic are you with? I'm at St Paul's and I've asked to switch to Wimbledon, so I can avoid getting on public transport, and they're not sure what clinics they will be reopening. Have you heard anything? I'm waiting for them to book me in for a new treatment plan.

ivfgottostaypositive · 06/05/2020 19:30

@HJF84

I'm with Birmingham so expecting they'll open as there aren't any other ones close by? I've been to St Paul's before for scans and even an egg collection as I work in London a lot - i imagine the Wimbledon one is much smaller so they'll prioritise the St Paul's one - strange though that it's not the other way around as I imagine most people go to at Paul's as it close to their work and if we are all working from home it's better to stay off public transport in the capital?

I've been checking the website several times a day for this update which they said would be "early" this week but not seen anything yet 😬

HJF84 · 06/05/2020 19:54

@ivfgottostaypositive That's me - I chose St Paul's as I work half the week in London. I'm not keen to be heading up to London on the train now, especially as they want to put me on immunosuppressants! I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed they decide to open Wimbledon too 🤞🏼

Leala20 · 06/05/2020 20:52

@Wesstywoo and @LondonIVF12 many thanks. My Amh is very low and my doctor told me this would not really help and there been not enough research. I have done mine and I see not many doctors in the UK want to admit it is effective. I will check it out thank you.

ivfgottostaypositive · 07/05/2020 09:48

@HJF84

Have you had the email asking you to complete the questionnaire with projected cycle day saying you are on the priority list?

I've done mine so hopefully will get a call back soon x

JeNeBaguetteRien · 07/05/2020 11:22

@Leala20 my current clinic prescribed testosterone gel, I believe the same rationale as for the use of DHEA.
It may have helped, but there are so many variables including tweaking the stimulation medication so it's hard to know.
My AMH was 2 last time it was tested.

HJF84 · 07/05/2020 18:49

@ivfgottostaypositive No - that's annoying! I wonder if that's because I chose to postpone my cycle rather than have them cancel it? I haven't heard back from them with my treatment appt either so I'll chase.

ivfgottostaypositive · 07/05/2020 19:18

@HJF84

I'm not sure as my last cycle wasn't cancelled due to the virus but had to be abandoned the month before due to lack of response. I had spoke to someone at the call centre a couple of times last week though to make sure everything was ready to go (in terms of any outstanding payments and paperwork) so maybe they had my name on the list of people who had made contact expressing an interest to start?

I'd definitely chase them though as I don't bother checking my emails much these days and only found it this morning and it had a deadline of 5pm on it to return the form x

ivfgottostaypositive · 07/05/2020 19:21

@HJF84

This is what I had back after filling in the questionnaire (all it really asked for was anticipated start of next period)

Coronavirus and fertility clinics.
HJF84 · 07/05/2020 21:46

@ivfgottostaypositive Ah I'm already at the stage where I have a treatment plan, I spoke to the doctor last week, just waiting for the nurse consultation. Maybe that's why I haven't heard anything. Who knows? I'll send a chaser email.

ivfgottostaypositive · 07/05/2020 22:12

@HJF84

Maybe that's it? Although this is the 3rd egg collection for me out of a 3 cycle package so no change to the previous plans but maybe each clinic is doing it a bit differently depending on the numbers of patients they think they might have wanting to start straight away x

ivfgottostaypositive · 10/05/2020 07:19

Anyone had an update from their clinic? Seems to have gone a bit quiet since the initial news last week x

jcurve · 10/05/2020 07:25

@ivfgottostaypositive I had a telephone call with the consultant a week ago & all going well with HFEA, should start my next round at the end of this week. My clinic was pretty confident of opening immediately.

Wesstywoo · 10/05/2020 08:14

@ivfgottostaypositive not yet although I have a telephone consultation this week so will ask

thefishthatcouldwish · 10/05/2020 08:21

I haveng but I know others have including one who has initial consultation on phone but my clinic is crap at getting back to you. Even when you ring.

ivfgottostaypositive · 10/05/2020 08:35

Good news everyone - I'm remaining positive that we can start our final egg collection at the end of this month and transfer mid June🤞🤞

Wesstywoo · 10/05/2020 08:54

AF due this week - was really hoping I can squeeze a cycle in this month but will certainly be cutting it fine! 🤞🤞🤞

Simz01 · 10/05/2020 09:27

Hi Ladies,

Which clinics are you at that are providing communication that they will be starting soon please?

I am with an NHS clinic, but private. I will need to move if my wait is too long , so trying to decide where x

ivfgottostaypositive · 10/05/2020 10:29

@Simz01

I'm with Create Birmingham so fully private.
I've heard that a lot of clinics that are based in NHS hospitals aren't starting up for a while - couple of months at least even if it's for private patients as even though you are paying the staff are NHS staff and may have been reassigned and of course there will be issues of physically going into the hospital with all the safety protocols in place
