Has anyone’s fertility clinic told them they will close due to Coronavirus? I’m due to start treatment and now confused as what to do or whether I’ll be able to start. Thanks.

X

twinkledag · 21/03/2020 09:49

Good luck @Simz01 🤞

Simz01 · 21/03/2020 11:28

Thank you so much ladies x

I had two top quality ones and third one which is lagging and they will let me know tomorrow. I transferred one earlier x

How are you all doing ? I’m so very sorry to hear about cancelled cycles, this is such a surreal time at the moment , and with the added stress of ivf being out of our hands x

Greenhairannie · 21/03/2020 11:46

A friend of mine is due to start NHS, self funded IVF soon, she is 40 and has already been told her chances aren’t great. I’ve been trying to get in touch with her as she lives in another part of the U.K. but I’m getting no response and I’m getting really worried about her. She will be devastated if it is cancelled due to coronavirus. Does anyone know if the nhs are cancelling treatment and if so is it possible to transfer to a private clinic?

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 21/03/2020 12:25

@Greenhairannie
Looks like 99% of cycles not already started on the NHS are cancelled and even those mid way through are cancelled and whilst it's heartbreaking it's absolutely the right decision to relocate resources at this time. The worry is how long it's going to take for cycles to start again. I suspect many NHS trusts won't restart for 12-18 months as the virus is going to cost the NHS billions

My friend needs a termination for medical reasons - the baby isn't going to survive to full term - she's had her NHS operation cancelled this week and told she'll have to keep going a few more weeks till she's far enough along to give birth to it

Greenhairannie · 21/03/2020 12:55

How heartbreaking for all the people involved, my poor friend will not take this well😢. I completely appreciate it's the right thing to do but she will be devastated by this.

Hiw awful for your friend it just seems unbelievable we could be in this position already. Sending Flowers for everyone affected in this way.

twinkledag · 21/03/2020 13:39

That is horrific @itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 21/03/2020 13:53

@twinkledag
I know! It's horrific - This is an IVF pregnancy too.

Elouera · 21/03/2020 14:12

We had 2, fresh embryos put in today. The 3rd didnt make it to day 5. No idea what the quality of them was like or any grading (never thought to ask). Feeling very lucky to get this far, but also a bit worried about everything else going on.

To the friend that needs TFMR, she must be almost to term if they are saying wait a few weeks just give birth! This doesn't sound right. Most abnormalities detrimental to life are picked up at 20ish weeks, if not at the NT at 12 weeks. Do you know what the condition is? I'm surprised that the hospital isn't still doing it. The only other option would be BPAS, although very few would do it if she really is almost to term. (Our 1st pregnancy had patau syndome, which is also a life limiting, genetic condition).

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 21/03/2020 15:23

Congratulations @Elouera best wishes for the next couple of weeks

My friend is about 16 weeks now. Edwards syndrome and several other anomalies were picked up at 12 weeks. They don't offer surgical
Management after around 16-20 weeks depending on the hospital- after 20 weeks where ever you are you have to have labour induced

I know they have approached BPAS but with the current situation -DH self employed and little money coming in now I believe it is several thousand to have it done privately. They are waiting to hear if a private clinic somewhere/anywhere in the country will do it for them

Liliclaire · 21/03/2020 15:34

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted That is just absolutely heartbreaking for your friend, so sad.

Liliclaire · 21/03/2020 15:36

@Elouera @Simz01 best of luck and love to you both x

Elouera · 21/03/2020 16:17

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted- I see. I thought your friend was say 36 weeks pregnant, and they were advising her to go full term. I misunderstood what you meant. She wants a surgical option, and they are only offered medical? Is that correct?

Sometimes a medical is preferred as an autopsy can be done easier, and less risk of damaging the uterus. Must be a very difficult time for her x

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 21/03/2020 16:30

@Elouera
Yes she's already lost several babies before due to miscarriages and ectopics and this was their one and only shot at IVF but Issues were identified at 12 weeks and amnio confirmed it - she just can't go through with the Labour option mentally/emotionally after everything else in the last couple of years so is desperate for a surgical resolution. They don't need the autopsy as the amnio was unequivocal x

JeNeBaguetteRien · 21/03/2020 17:04

Good luck @Simz01 and @Elouera

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted I feel so sorry for your friend, what an awful situation, I hope someone can provide the treatment she needs soon.

JeNeBaguetteRien · 21/03/2020 17:08

@Liliclaire you have every right to rant and the feelings of anger and frustration and disappointment have to go somewhere.
Go easy on yourself.

twinkledag · 21/03/2020 17:26

That is terrible @itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted

runningfan · 21/03/2020 18:14

I'm not sure if it's the right thing to post or not given so many people are stuck waiting now (I'm really sorry).

We actually had a FET this morning. My partner is carrying. We are a same sex couple so no choice but to be private. After such a long time try and lots of heartache it was hard to even be sure if it was a good idea to go ahead but we are hoping if we just lock ourselves away this time it'll work, and make it full term.

I know I said it before but I'm so sorry for everyone who's now waiting, this whole process is so tough already.

Good luck wherever you are in the journey x

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 21/03/2020 18:15

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted - your poor friend . That’s so sad

X

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 21/03/2020 18:22

I take it given the latest statement from the government ref private handing over to the NHS , staff and resources , that those of us mid way through private cycles will now too be cancelled ? Anyone heard from their clinics today or is it an antagonising wait until Monday to find out. I’m guessing the private anaesthetists will now be working for the NHS , which I totally totally get - it’s just frustrating getting so close to egg collection And falling at the last hurdle . I had only just started to get my head around not being able to transfer but now its likely to be stopped before collection
X

runningfan · 21/03/2020 18:27

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted I'm so sorry for your friend. That is heartbreaking.

Matilda128 · 21/03/2020 18:40

I don't know @Xx40yearsyoungxx I'm getting the impression they are talking about private hospitals rather than fertility clinics. I imagine the anaesthetists may be a problem but Care said they are working on a solution for that (I don't know what that would be but I think I'm so desperate I would do it fully awake if needs be). I'm fully expecting it to be cancelled still and somewhere I'm just absolutely exhausted about the anxiety every single day.
It's so awful to hear that people can no longer receive essential healthcare. Also reading about stories of people having cancer treatment delayed and essential operations cancelled which means people are in constant pain. The UK has one of the lowest amount of intensive care beds in Europe and it seems completely unable to cope. It's just awful. Sad

LemonRabbit · 21/03/2020 18:46

@Xx40yearsyoungxx
I phoned a private clinic - Care fertility - about taking over treatment for a FET cycle - they said they wouldn’t do that, but would start a new IVF cycle. Did I see a post from you though that said they would accept an embryo from another clinic?
What with the unpredictability of lockdowns etc, there’s no way we’re going ahead with anything now anyway.
Just gonna do what we do best - waiting!!! - and wait it out and hope it takes the NHS less than a year to recover.
I’m not even sure if we’ll try naturally - it seems such a scary time. Although obviously that hasn’t gone well the last 3+ years.
I have to get through the next 8 days of progesterone pessaries - 3 times a day - tragic as rather than preparing womb lining I’m now trying to help it shed. It’s not physically awful - just mentally. And then I can (try to) put it out my mind.

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted
Sorry to hear about your friend carrying an unwell baby she might have to deliver - how truly awful. At least she has a good friend (you!) to talk to.

@runningfan
Good luck! You’ve swapped one set of worries for a whole new set. Fingers crossed for you and hope you partner avoids this terrible virus.

LemonRabbit · 21/03/2020 18:52

Just read these messages from you all now. I phoned Care on Wednesday morning but this situation is constantly evolving, so that info might be outdated.
@Xx40yearsyoungxx @Matilda128
I really hope EC goes ahead even if it is put on ice xx

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 21/03/2020 18:56

@lemmonrabbit - I posted asking whether you could transfer but wasn’t sure if you could . Think someone on here did say that they could transfer their embryo ?
It is mentally exhausting !
Wishing you well with your onward journey and fingers crossed the systems resume within a year
