Coronavirus and fertility clinics.

Has anyone’s fertility clinic told them they will close due to Coronavirus? I’m due to start treatment and now confused as what to do or whether I’ll be able to start. Thanks.

I'm so sad to hear about more people having their cycles cancelled. So horrible.

Tomorrow at 1 Care will use Facebook to give the latest updates in terms of the virus and fertility treatment. Perhaps this may also be of interest for people at other clinics: www.carefertility.com/our-response-to-the-current-coronavirus-covid-19-situation/

Take care everyone xxx

I'm at Bourn Hall and a week from FET transfer. I went for my tracking scan this morning and was told I'm all set for the embryo transfer next week. About an hour ago I got the phone call to tell me that they've been advised that all treatments have to be stopped due to the guidance they've just received. It's sad and frustrating, but especially as I can't see the Covid 19 situation being resolved quickly. I feel in limbo.

Liliclaire · 19/03/2020 16:34

@Lilypods sorry to hear this. I was same due FET on Tuesday and went for my last scan this week Tuesday told all was going ahead but with a warning anything could change, got the call to say it was cancelled yesterday. Sending hugs to you. It’s very upsetting and worse we don’t know when we’ll be able to go again and for some this may have been their last chance for a fresh cycle x

Rumtopf · 19/03/2020 17:32

I'm with The Fertility Partnership too but in Chelmsford.
I'm mid stimming and am to continue till EC, then it's a freeze all until guidance changes.

seven201 · 19/03/2020 18:05

Thanks @Matilda128 I'm with care so will follow that. I've got my baseline scan for FET on Monday.

Lilypods · 19/03/2020 21:11

@Liliclaire thank you. It felt like it was all going so well and then to have it whipped away when you're so close is just so tough. Realistically now isn't the best time to get pregnant, but it's just so disheartening.

Matilda128 · 19/03/2020 21:26

I saw this open letter to HEFA on Twitter and I think it think it explains this horrible situation really well.

Coronavirus and fertility clinics.
Liliclaire · 19/03/2020 21:28

I feel exactly the same and agree it’s probably not the best time but doesn’t make it any easier. And there will be worry for anyone that is pregnant now or anxious over whether to go ahead or not when it’s such a difficult process to go through anyway. We’re all in it together. Sending love.x

@mbizzles @sonowhat

Yes I have transferred from NHS to private. They took me on day 2 of cycle following downregulation.

They are doing embryo freezing, but no transfers at the moment.

We just wanted to get what we could in the freezer as it will be at least 6 months before NHS IVF up and running and we don't have time to wait.

Good luck to everyone.

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 19/03/2020 22:45

@Rumtopf - are they letting you transfer if you wanted to as the website implies that they don't advise ( strongly don’t advise ) you transfer but doesn’t say you can’t ?

twinkledag · 19/03/2020 22:57

That letter sums it up 👏

Rumtopf · 19/03/2020 22:59

@xx40yearsyoungxx no they're not letting us transfer but have offered to freeze and then give us free FET and meds. Although I'm almost 41 with low AMH so am going to ask them tomorrow at my cd10 scan if I can do a other round of stimming immediately after this cycle and freeze them too. As if we don't get many good embryos to freeze this cycle and then I have to wait another, say 6 months, my situation will just be even worse. Will have to see what the consultant says tomorrow.

JeNeBaguetteRien · 19/03/2020 23:16

I should have been having egg collection today... But in Madrid so definitely not happened, had started stims and had my best response ever (5th time stimming and if all the follicles had contained eggs would have added up to more eggs than all previous cycles combined!)
It was my first time doing a mid cycle stim where they start stims 2 days after ovulation. And clearly my old ovaries liked it. I am old and have low AMH.
So I had used up most of my meds, got all bloated and hopeful and emotional for nothing, though I knew on Monday it was game over. They had been looking into doing egg collection elsewhere but it wasn't possible.
I'm pretty gutted, last egg collection I didn't get many eggs and it would have been easier to take but the response was so good.
Keeping in perspective the awful situation around us and uncertainty about the future.
But knowing I'll be so much older when I can ever start again is really shit. This has come on top of a few other setbacks so is hitting me hard.
💐 to all.

JeNeBaguetteRien · 19/03/2020 23:19

@Rumtopf I think it's unlikely you'll be able to fit a second stim round in but no harm in asking... My clinic (in Spain) do back to back stimulations where you start again 2 days after egg collection and have very good results. Bloody wish I'd done that before but it was too long to be away!

Rumtopf · 19/03/2020 23:41

@JeNeBaguetteRien thanks for the info I shall certainly ask the question as when I was in on Wednesday there were 2 brand new couples filling in their PTA forms. If they're still taking on new patients with the aim to get them through to EC (I asked my nurse) then hopefully they might agree and it may mean we have more good grade embryos ready for when we can finally proceed.

I'm so sorry to read of your cancelled cycle, you must be very cross, frustrated and upset. What a shame you couldn't transfer to a UK clinic after responding so well to the protocol.

twinkledag · 20/03/2020 07:42

My clinic is Team Miracle in Cyprus, they are closed and cancelled my IVF last week. I posted this yesterday on my thread:

Pissed off today. No chance of a 2020 baby now. The gap between my son and a possible sibling gets further and further away. I get older. And then I'm hearing about a baby boom in a few months due to people having to stay in. Well not for me as infertility has fucking ruined my sex life. Fucking shit.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 20/03/2020 08:37

@twinkledag
Me too! My mum and dad said the other day with a wink wink nudge nudge "bet you won't need that IVF in a couple of months" - I had to remind them I have no tubes after two ruptured ectopics and it would be the fucking immaculate conception if I were to get pregnant naturally 🤦‍♀️

twinkledag · 20/03/2020 09:07

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted 🤦‍♀️

Not to mention the psychological impact of many many failed cycles. Hardly puts you in the mood!

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 20/03/2020 09:12

@twinkledag
Bizarrely without working up and down the country knackering me out and the fact my clinic still open at the moment I'm more in the mood than normal!

Although I suspect if my DH and I are stuck at home with each other indefinitely I may need to start looking for a sperm donor instead!

twinkledag · 20/03/2020 10:03

😂

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 20/03/2020 10:18

@Matilda128 - thanks for the info ref Facebook updates . I’m not on Facebook ( prob the only one in the world now ) - if there are any major changes could you post on here .....

@Rumtopf - I didn’t even know you could potentially do a second round of stims straight after ? Good luck with your apt ! Hopefully they let you do this ? Fingers crossed

Has anyone who is with a private clinic been told whether they think realistically that the clinics will still be running for egg collections early/ mid April ..... even though private hospitals may not be able to ‘house’ patients the staff may be redeployed

YogaPants4 · 20/03/2020 10:34

I was told def no @Xxyearsyoung Did your clinic say theyre still going ahead atm? If so massive🤞🏽🤞🏽 For you

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 20/03/2020 10:49

@YogaPants4 - they have indicated that they will try and get to egg collection but likely this may not be the case ..... they think staff will be redeployed etc

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 20/03/2020 11:29

Creates website still says they are operating as usual too

bunhead34 · 20/03/2020 12:04

Those with cancelled cycles - do you just stop taking the medication?

My clinic just told me if there is a lockdown they may have to cancel. Hoping to get to egg collection at the end of next week! Xx
