My dh and I have been ttc our first baby for 3.5 years now. Dh has had 2 semen analysis done, the first came back inconclusive and the second came back as severe oligospermia. The lab only found 16 sperm in the entire sample. Dh had a blood test which came back normal and he was referred to a urologist who gave him a physical examination and said everything looked normal. The urologist then booked dh in for a testicular ultrasound, which he is due to attend next week. I was hoping that those of you with experience of MFI might be able to share their experiences and give us some idea as of what to expect going forward. With such low numbers it is hard to feel very optimistic about our chances Sad

Hi we had Male factor infertility although honestly not as severe as your DH. I would imagine you will be able to apply for ivf with results like that. You can check your local ccg to see what is offered in your area. Unfortunately it’s a total postcode lottery. For example where I live it’s two funded rounds. Next county over it’s one and some it’s none which is awful.

Whilst waiting to find out what’s happening you can take supplements to see if it will help. Lots of people will offer different advice. My DH took Wellman conception tablets 200mg coq10 and high dose vit c and we did see an improvement. Supplements need to be taken for at least 3 months for a difference to be seen.

If you then do decide to go down the ivf route they will look at you and your partners health and fertility health and make a plan of action. It’s a long road but I personally found it ok. You could also consider donor sperm but I would discuss that with a specialist as you still maybe be able to use your partners sperm.

Hi, thank you for your reply. My dh has been taking wellman conception for a while now although he doesn't take anything else along side them. I will have a look into ivf funding in our area thank you.

My DH had 0 sperm in all his samples. He is about to have a microTESE operation to see if there are any that can be used in ICSI. It's taken ages to get to this point, partly due to admin errors, but if they are able to find a sample apparently they'll start IVF very quickly (this is an NHS round) so that's positive. For time reference, we got the diagnosis 15 months ago.

Hi @Mrsboombastic99
I’m in the exact same boat, my husband has a diagnostic of Severe Ogliospermia and they only found one sperm in his sample! Have you made any decision on moving forward?
