Double hydrosalpinx

Hi,
Have been ttc for over 2 years. Found out in September that I have double hydrosalpinx and am awaiting a laparoscopy. I just wondered if anyone had been in the same situation and had success. I don't want to pin all my hopes on surgery. But would be so grateful to hear from anyone who has been or is going through the same. I feel so useless.
Thanks for your time :)

Hi Bee, I didn't turn out to have a hydrosalpinx but did have one suspected and had the hysco and lap, I was so scared of the surgery but it really was fine. Just take it easy for a few days, don't rush back to work if you don't have to. Good luck

Thank you so much for your response. I just wish I knew if there was much of a success rate. Thank you for your time

I had a double hydrosalpinx and had surgery to remove both. I’m now on second cycle of IVF. Once removed, the IVF prognosis is generally unchanged, I’ve been told. Although of course the chances of getting pregnant naturally reduce to zero. If it’s looking like the IVF route is for you I’d have the surgery as soon as you can.

Good luck!

Thanks for getting back to me, I hope you don't mind me asking, did they completely remove your tubes? Atm I have been told they will clear them but not sure how successful this will be. Think we need to start saving fr IVF.
Wish you all the luck in the world!

Yes in my case, they removed them completely. Thank you!

Hi @Bee3113, I was diagnosed with two blocked tubes, by a laparoscopy- at that time they didn't do anything but referred me for IVF. During my cycle of ivf they could see from the scans I had fluid in my tubes, so they did the egg retrieval and that produced 1 embryo. I had to then have a laparoscopy to remove both tubes as the fluid in the tubes can be toxic to the embryo. After they were removed I then had the frozen embryo transferred which did not result in pregnancy.
Had my second round of IVF in October, got 4 embryos and I'm now 15weeks pregnant! Pretty amazing to have no tubes and still be pregnant but that's the wonder of ivf! Feel very lucky, hopefully you'll have the same outcome X

Hi BeaCat, what a fab outcome, thank you so much for getting back to me. At the moment I'm awaiting surgery to have the fluid removed but not sure if that will help long term. I'm so pleased to hear you are expecting, wish you all the best with your little one. Really hope I get the same news one day x

I'm sorry I cant give any answers but I wanted to say hi as I am in the samr boat - waiting surgery for removal of both tubes also. not even got a date to discuss for another 10 weeks though so quite frustrating. I was wondering does anyone know how long you need to recover before IVF can start?

Bee3113 · 09/03/2020 18:09

Hi Ellie,
It's looking like I'm due to have surgery in May. At the moment I've been told they are going to clear my tubes, so intrigued to see what's next. The waiting is so hard isn't it. I wish you all the best x

@ellie17 I found waiting for my surgeries the hardest part, so frustrating! I think I had my rounds of ivf about 3-4 months after surgery. I think the body goes back to its normal routine fairly soon after.
@Bee3113 hope your surgery goes well and you get your happy result too 😊

Bee3113 · 09/03/2020 19:14

Thanks BeaCat. Hope everything is going well with your little bump x

Me! Both tubes removed and two natural pregnancies both sustained by aspirin and progesterone

Elouera · 09/03/2020 20:59

A friend had this, but only on 1 tube. Hers started after an ectopic pregnancy, but they kept the tube in. Can also occur from STI/PID etc apparently. She had IVF, but lost several and the cause was also down to the hydrosalpinx being toxic to the foetus! They removed her tube altogether and advised they she'd never have any children at all!

She fell naturally, then when the baby was 3mths old, fell naturally with twins!!!

What are they planning to do during the laparascopy? Is it just to see whats what, or try to clear/drain the tubes? Or something else? Have they advised what the next steps would be?

Bee3113 · 09/03/2020 21:37

Wow! Thats amazing, bless her. They already know its hydrosalpinx in both tubes. Been told at the moment that they're going to try and drain it. No guarantees it won't just come back of course. But trying to keep positive.

Thats great news about your friend Elouera. They've said both mine will be removed. I thought no chance of getting pregnant naturally without tubes? mine was caused by appendicitus. fingers crossed for you Bee, please keep me posted xx

Maximoo06 · 10/03/2020 22:20

I had hydrosalpinx in one tube they drained it then clipped it as hydrosalpinx will mostly always come back so the clip will stop it leaking into the uterus. Mine returned after about 8 months. I had ivf about 2 months after the laparoscopy to drain and clip.

Maximoo06 · 10/03/2020 22:23

@Grumpbum123 how did you fall pregnant naturally with no tubes?

Bee3113 · 10/03/2020 23:04

Maximoo, after it returned was the IVF ok? The NHS have just said they'll drain it for me. Should I be asking for them to be clipped do you think? Sorry to ask. Sp grateful to hear from everyone. Felt bruised alone up until now x

Maximoo06 · 11/03/2020 09:29

@Bee3113 I would definitely ask there opinion on why they haven't suggested clipping it, there could be a reason. Yes everything was fine with the ivf regarding the hydrosalpinx, unfortunately 2 rounds & 4 embryo transfers haven't worked but it's nothing to do with the hydrosalpinx. X

Bee3113 · 11/03/2020 18:46

Sorry to hear that Maximoo06 wish you all the best with your bext step. Thank you so much for your honesty xx
