8DPO cramping - never a BFP

A bit of background - I have a 6 year old DD (no problems with conception). My husband (34) and I (37) have been trying for just over 2 years now for no.2. We've had loads of tests and it would appear it's secondary unexplained infertility. This is my 3rd cycle of Clomid (although I ovulate on my own every month).

My question - I seem to have period type cramps at about 8dpo each month, never with a BFP. I'm day 8 past ovulation today and the cramps have started - I don't think for one second I'm pregnant, but I worry that with period pains starting now (and therefore my body already knowing I'm not pregnant) it is a very short luteal phase......if that makes sense!

Any thoughts? I'm getting very dis-heartened with this now :-( and appreciate any comments. Thank you in advance x

Is it actually a short luteal phase though - do you get your period soon after? Is it every month without fail? I am wondering if they are implantation cramps, but that the embryo doesn’t ever develop past a few days

Thank you for your response @Chillichutney1 no my period doesn't normally start for a week or so afterwards. I just presumed that because my cramps start and I've never had a BFP that my body knows I'm not pregnant so the period process starts - I never considered what you suggest.....is that a thing? Def worth considering / investigating. I don't feel I get many answers (or many questions asked actually!) by my specialist x
