What to expect at Fertility Appointment?

I hope it's ok to post here...I'm not sure where else to post.
I'm 41 (42 in 3mths) and DH is 43 (44 in 6mths). We have a DS aged 2 who we conceived naturally and without problems.
We've been trying to conceive number 2 now for 14mths without even a hint of a BFP.
We had an initial appointment with the fertility specialist (with a nurse) in December who did some basic tests and ordered several blood tests...Day 3 and Day 21, some to tests egg quality and reserve?! I had an Ultrasound scan which showed ovaries of 3cm and 6cm. I had an HSG which showed no problems. DH went and gave a Sperm Sample.
I go to see the consultant next Tuesday but where I'm stuck is they just seem to give me random numbers or results "satisfactory" but I don't know what any of this means or what it should be or what exactly they're looking for. DH was supposed to be coming but unfortunately has to attend a mandatory training course and I didn't want to put it off.
Can anyone help and explain to me what all the tests are for and what I should be wanting them to be?
Thank you.

Hi OP. I've gone through this process and I know it can feel a little daunting and confusing.
Essentially, they're testing you to see if there are any medical issues preventing you from conceiving; ie quality and motility of sperm, number and quality of eggs, whether you're ovulating, any issues with tubes etc.
If all test results have been "satisfactory", then you'll be given the frustrating label of unexplained secondary infertility.
At that point, you and your DH need to decide whether you want to pay to go for private assisted conception. This may be IVF, but it depends on your precise circumstances.
If you don't want to do that, or you're not able to, then that is it I'm afraid.

I hope that's not teaching you to suck eggs. The most important thing I can say is don't be afraid to ask questions, and ask the consultant what the numbers mean or what the options are if you don't understand them initially. Best of luck, OP.
