Successful IVF

Hi all,
I have just joined mumsnet having had a baby on my 4th IVF transfer. I checked these threads so often through my treatment and it was a godsend to know other people were in the same boat so firstly, thank you.
Secondly, I hoped it might be helpful for anyone who is in that boat to know a few things we picked up along the way. Whether they’re useful or not, just know I have my fingers crossed for you.
-we had treatment at Countess of Chester and found it excellent once we had got through the initial testing (hycosy etc). Top tip for getting through if you have to leave a voicemail with the NHS is to leave your name and date of birth-that was the only way we could get a call back for time-sensitive appointments in the very first stages and worked for friends as well.
-I was told to avoid hot baths throughout. I wish I’d known that before we started because I can’t help but wonder if my love for very hot baths has affected things in the years we’d been trying
-we had an egg collection and blastocysts that waited 5 days and were frozen.
-we had 3 failed transfers. The only difference with the fourth one (who is now a 12 week old baby) was blood thinning injections. I should stress that our excellent doctor said there was no evidence these were necessary so it might have been coincidence or placebo effect but it did work.
Hope this helps someone xx

We are also at the Countess of Chester and when I had my FET a couple of months ago I asked about baths and why they suggest avoiding these. They clarified that it has nothing to do with heat but the risk of infection through the water entering your body after EC and during the two weeks after embryo transfers. So you shouldn't have any baths (even if they are cold) or go swimming during this time. They assured me that there is no risk to have a bath at other times during conception (for women- for men it is a different story). It's really nice to hear you have been successful! X

Oh that’s interesting! I wonder why it’s mentioned in non-ivf trying to conceive then. Do you think that’s also infection risk?
It felt like the temperature element made sense (blood flow away from vital organs etc) so it’s interesting to know it’s nothing to do with that for women.
Thanks for the congratulations everyone & good luck with yours, Matilda128!

I had not heard about it myself until the hospital told me. I have heard that for sperm quality it could be bad and that in general it is better for your skin and body not to have baths that are too hot (apparently it dries out your skin and it's not good if you have high blood pressure). Baths may increase some people's chances of getting BV or Thrush especially if you use lots of bubble bath or scented products and are sensitive to these. Those infections have been linked to possibly lowering you chances of getting pregnant. Perhaps this is the reason you read it somewhere? I asked and looked into this issue because I get a lot of pain and discomfort during IVF and paracetamol doesn't help at all so I rely on baths and hot water bottles to get me through. When they mentioned the bath I was also worried about my use of hot water bottles (I thought if heat is bad then those must be terrible) but they said these were absolutely fine as the problem was the water. They also said that having baths were absolutely fine apart from the period between egg collection to after 2 weeks wait X
