Stopping smoking for IVF

Hi guys 👋 I just thought I'd start a thread for anyone that has / or is quitting smoking in order to do IVF etc.

Where I live (Devon, UK) we are eligible for 1 round of IVF on the nhs providing you are a non-smoker and have the correct BMI.

My OH and I are in the process of quitting smoking and have our IVF treatment booked in for January.

I'm currently taking a 12 week course of Champix to aid me in my smoking cessation.

Am currently on day 3 of no smoking whatsoever 🙌 and I just wondered if it's ok to continue taking Champix throughout my ivf treatment?

My smoking nurse said the Champix doesn't affect any other medications but I just wondered if anyone has had any experience with this? Or if anyone is embarking on a quit-smoking journey to help with conception etc.?

Would love to hear from anyone else going through similar Smile

Well done, and good luck with the IVF. I don't have experience of IVF but I certainly do of stopping smoking, I've spent the last 25 years trying to stop!
Then I read Allen Carr's Easyway To Stop Smoking (book) and it's incredible. I've been stopped 3 months and can categorically say I will never smoke again.
I trued gum/patches/champix/vaping the whole lot, but this is the only and EASIEST way I managed to kick it.
Honestly, it's the best £7 you'll ever spend 😊😊

@lovelilies I've actually just finished reading Alan Carr's EASYWAY which gave me the focus and mind set to be able to stop. I'm still finding it a little bit difficult though and I know Allan says it's supposed to be easy so I think I would benefit from reading the book again to be honest but it's definitely helped me! Thankyou for your comment Smile

I read it years ago (and didn't stop) then again this year. It took me a while to read it (fear of stopping!) but read it twice and the penny has finally dropped.

My clinic had a list of permitted smoking cessation aids listed - but in all cases you needed to have stopped smoking for a minimum of 2 years to be accepted through a NHS programme. If I were you I would call your local fertility clinic and ask them
