Anyone's periods stop? (PCOS)

I came off the pill in January and slowly had the time between periods reducing. 74/56/40/40/37... they were light. I'm currently CD54.

Negative pregnancy tests waiting on results from various blood tests to see what's going on (diagnosed with PCOS at 16 but doctors are wanting to do all the checks again as I'm 34😒) it was all looking so promising.

Can anyone give me any tips to help me out? Doctors is three weeks away to discuss my results ☹️ I was so sure I was pregnant but seems my ovaries are just sleeping sob

Hi, I’m in a similar situation as I have also been diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 25, we have been trying for a baby for 12+ months and blood tests/ultra sound scans have now diagnosed PCOS. You may be referred for an ultra sound scan next just to see how many cysts there are (that’s what happened to me!) and we have now been referred to a gynaecologist and a fertility specialist, we are waiting on treatment to start. I am being given 6 months of Clomifene first to try and start natural regular ovulation, but if that’s not successful it will be on to IVF...... I know it’s really hard but please try not to worry, there’s so many different treatment options available - and it turns out PCOS is so common there’s many ways around it. Stay positive x

@ClaireLou25 thank you for taking the time to message. It was so kind. I'm especially struggling as a family member announced their pregnancy after a few months married and we have been married 8 years. It was all a huge 'surprise' for them as she was late. Her period was due when mine was. She's pregnant, I'm just broken. My heart hurts. Thank you so much again. It just takes so long between appointments, but in all fairness the doctors have been supportive. Good luck to you, I wish you the very best and hope that you get your positive soon x

I know the feeling, the majority of our family and friends also have babies, and again they were a ‘huge surprise’ or ‘not planned my and every time that happens my heart just breaks, it’s even more difficult sometimes knowing that you’re doing everything possible to try and get pregnant and it’s just not happening. It really is heartbreaking. Lots of people are starting to make comments now as well, asking why we haven’t had a baby yet or saying there must be a problem as there’s no baby yet - it’s really heartbreaking, they obviously don’t know the full ins and outs but there’s just no consideration from them, every time a comment like that is made it just breaks my heart. Hopefully you will get your next doctors appointment soon, the waiting in between appointments is definitely the worst part.... I was advised to have another smear test and blood tests for rubella etc. too as this speeds things up at the fertility clinic, and also have Hubby checked. My doctors have said they’re unable to prescribe any medication as this needs to come from the fertility clinic so it’s just waiting now for that appointment. Please please try to stay strong & positive. PCOS is known for causing stress and anxiety so just try to relax.... it will happen (for both of us!) it may just take a little longer, which will make our babies even more special :-) x

Hopefully you will be referred to a gynae at a subfertility unit asap given your previous PCOS diagnosis. This is a problem that GPs should not mess about with in ignorance. It is likely at present that you are not ovulating regularly if at all.

Both of you should be tested in tandem.

Clomid is often the first line of treatment given to such patients but ensure that you are monitored properly if placed on it. Clomid resistance is not unknown and if this is happening then other treatments can and should be tried. With PCOS, IVF should only really be tried if other treatment options like injectible drugs and ovarian diathermy have failed because of the very real risks of ovarian hyperstimulation. Its not an automatic reason to have IVF and if they immediately suggest IVF post clomid I would be asking them why this is so (particularly if there are no male factor issues).

You will need to be persistent in order to get answers. I would also suggest you look at Verity's website on PCOS as this is a useful resource.

@AttilaTheMeerkat THANK you so much for your response. It was full of information and encouragement and was so so much appreciated. They did say they would need to check my husband too (in time) but hopefully I'll get more information when I go back to the doctors in two weeks. I'll push for a scan next if it comes back fine and a 21 day blood test when it's actually day 21 and not day 51 too. I've previously looked at verity but I haven't for ages and totally forgot so that's a great idea. Thank you!

With regards to the blood tests, if the menstrual cycle is irregular they can actually be done according to calendar days. My blood tests in respect of PCOS were done around the 3rd, 10th and 21st of each month.
