Process after Clomid

EndlessDaysOfRain · 10/11/2019 23:11

Can anyone advise on the process after tests and taking Clomid/any prescribed medications?
Took 6 cycles without any success and wondering what my next appointment will entail, which is at the end of the month.
TIA

I know you aren't pregnant, but has the Clomid 'worked' as in made you ovulate?

For me the next step after Clomid was IVF. It would be worth checking if your CCG funds IVF and if so do you meet the criteria.
They may offer IUI or a different treatment.

@JeNeBaguetteRien thank you for replying.
Yes, Clomid did make me ovulate.
I'm based in South Wales and I believe they currently fund 2 full IVF cycles, but they don't fund IUI, so I'd assume this means IVF/ICSI.
I have my next appointment next week (supposed to have been end of Sept, but they didn't send letter then didn't have an appt until Nov!). Just hoping they don't try fobbing me off with more medications or anything else!
Fingers crossed they'll refer me for IVF.
Wishing you the best of luck with everything. 🤞🏼
Thanks again for your help x

Two full cycles of IVF sounds like a much better option than IUI.
I'm your shoes I'd go to the appointment and request that they make IVF, or ICSI if appropriate, your next step.

There can be a degree of fobbing off involved, and it may be that Christmas causes further delay (my first cycle they weren't going to be open around the time of egg collection so had to wait another month which at the time was rubbish when you just want to get on with it).

Good luck for the appointment and come back to update.
Thanks for good wishes, I'm hoping for a FET in the new year so if things move along for us both we might coincide!

@ASandwichNamedKevin thank you. Yes, I thought that too.
Hopefully that's what they'll send me for. I will try and insist on it being the next step. Hopefully they'll listen 🤞🏼
Yes, I know what you mean - it is so annoying! We're waiting long enough as it is.
Thank you. I will do! Let me know when you are. Maybe we can give each other support throughout this!
Good luck and hope you won't have to wait too long for your FET x

Hi @EndlessDaysOfRain 2 full IVF cycles is great, hope you can get on the waiting list ASAP. You've waited an extra 2 months for your appointment so they might get you on the list quickly (there's always that random person who gets pregnant right before they start IVF, if you can't be her at least take her place on the list!)
I've just had egg collection yesterday but am doing a double stimulation cycle to get as many as possible - I'm a bit older and with low AMH of 2 so anything is worth a try.
Good luck x

EndlessDaysOfRain · 15/11/2019 08:47

@JeNeBaguetteRien yes, it isn't bad considering the postcode lottery!!
Me too, really hope that will be my next appointment. Feel so down waiting all the time, as I'm sure you know.
Thank you, that's a nice way to think.
Sending all my wishes for you after your egg collection- keep us updated!
Definitely, anything is worth a try. Fingers crossed and the best of luck to you xx

@EndlessDaysOfRain Best of luck with everything. I'm in a similar position to you in that we've been referred for IVF and also get 2 rounds on the NHS (Greater Manchester). I'm taking Clomid at the moment but just to tide me over really.

I can't offer any advice on appointments, as we've been referred straight through to the IVF hospital but just wanted to say hello and let you know I'm here if you need to moan! Flowers I'm also expecting a fairly long wait between now and getting to the treatment stage. x

Do you have a diagnosis?. In many cases clomid can kickstart ovulation but pregnancy does not always result.

Are there male factor issues?. If so IVF may be more likely in such circumstances.

EndlessDaysOfRain · 15/11/2019 10:19

@Chichz thank you for your reply.
I'm glad you have 2 rounds too.
Wishing you the best of luck too and hopefully the Clomid will be successful, but if not, hopefully you won't have to wait long to start your IVF treatment 🤞🏼
It is so different everywhere isn't it? Think it's just nice to have others experiences, as nobody I know has been through anything like this and so I feel so alone sometimes.
Keep us updated and best wishes to you xx

@AttilaTheMeerkat thanks for the reply.
Yes, I have been diagnosed with PCOS, although I don't really have many of the common symptoms, just lots of immature follicles and cycles are different each month. They originally thought that I didn't ovulate naturally because my blood result was low, but due to my cycles changing each month, they tested a week later and it was mid thirties. She had already given me the Clomid prescription and I said I'd give it a ago anyway, even if it was to regulate my cycles (which it did whilst using).
My partners semen analysis did show low morphology, but they didn't seem too concerned because they said he had a high sperm count and that it would balance out to a normal level. Everything else was ok.
They did tell me at my last appointment in August that my next one would be to refer me for IVF and that they wanted me to finish my Clomid cycles first. Just hoping that they stick to it and not pal me off with other things.
Thanks again for your reply.
Good luck to you if you're awaiting/going through treatment xx
