Experiences with fertility ultrasound?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

We have only been TTC for the last 7 months. My cycles have been very erratic, I have recently bought a thermometer and will be looking at tracking my ovulation. This has been a longer ongoing issue, I was on the implant for 6 years and since stopping that 3 years ago I have never had normal cycles. My GP isn't concerned and I have 2 children from a previous relationship.

I have been looking at ultrasound/fertility clinics. I don't really know if this is the next logical step. I just want some answers so we can make plans about our future.

Can anyone give me some experience paying for the scans and blood work?

I got private ultrasounds and bloods to speed up my diagnosis to be seen on the NHS which worked. Then I got treatment on the NHS and had my son. I don’t know if you’d be eligible for anything on the nhs with previous children but worth a look.
I’m now trying for number 2 and it’s all private, I get ultrasounds at one place which is cheaper though but still about £300 a month to track for ovulation

How old are you now?.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost. Ask the clinics you visit lots of questions and never be afraid to ask them awkward questions or questions re success rates either. It is also fair to say that some private based treatment offered by some clinics is poor as well as expensive; you will need to do your researches thoroughly before parting with your hard earned cash.

You are beyond the stage of using a thermometer to track your temp and besides which this is not much if any use if the menstrual cycle has been irregular to date. It may appear like you are doing something but you will most likely end up with a chart akin to the Rocky Mountains and it will be impossible to interpret with any degree of accuracy. Such problems are often caused by hormonal imbalances and your GP is wrong not to be concerned.

Thank you both for your replies.

@AttilaTheMeerkat I am 34 so I feel that if it doesn't happen in the next year we won't pursue the idea any longer (I have a friend with a DD who has downs syndrome and lots of complications). So is it not worth temperature tracking then? I assumed it would give me an idea of if I was ovulating and more information to take to my GP?

I wasted two years tracking bbt etc trying to get my doctors to refer me and listen to me telling them that it proved I never ovulated and something was very wrong (Rocky Mountains indeed!!!)

Not one professional ever wanted to discuss tracking etc. They set no store in it at all. I’ve given all of that nonsense up now, it works great for women who have textbook cycles and always did.

In the end I paid to go private and went through every test before they finally tested my AMH and discovered I have diminished reserve 👌

I’m 34 too and my advice is go private, get bloods and a baseline ultrasound done to start with. Good luck! X

@FlashesOfRage thank you for the reply. I have been in contact with the best 2 clinics near me this morning and I am going to get the full range of tests done. Sod the temperature taking!

Thank you all. I am feeling a bit more in control and positive today.
