levothyroxine before IVF

Hi ladies

I was hoping to start IVF in December but my blood results show that I have an underactive thyroid (4.5) but my consultant has said it needs to ideally be 2.5 before treatment starts and so I need to go on levothyroxine.

I just wanted to know if anyone had a similar experience? If so, how long did it take to get your levels down to where it needs to be? Did you stay on it through pregnancy?

Thank you SmileThanks

Hi @2018mummytogirl,

My TSH was 4.8 when first tested. I started taking 50mcg thyroxine and my level was 1.1 6 weeks later. You keep taking the thyroxine during pregnancy, normally with a slight dose increase. I'm also hoping to start IVF, probably in January. Good luck!

Long term under active thyroid here. Def needs to be below 2.5 before you conceive and there are strict ranges once pregnant. THe dose should be increased AS SOON as you get your bfp (fingers crossed) and then closely monitored throughout pregnancy with consultant referral.

I had my thyroid levels checked every 2 months throughout all of my ttc and ivf - that’s what the guidelines say - means I’ve had it checked sooooo much. When I did finally get pregnant there was no way I was letting my thyroid be the reason it didn’t work out!!!!

(One healthy DS currently and planning for no.2 with my Frosties)

Good luck
