Short protocol FET

Was wondering if anyone has heard of this or been through this themselves? If so how did you find it/ any success with it- did your clinic mention why they might chose short over long protocol? I have had a long protocol FET in the past and found it went on forever and was very stressful. I wasn’t given a reason why I was put on this rather than short although I later found out the clinic offers both. If I didn’t have to do the downreg again then that would be great! Love the idea of a natural cycle FET but don’t think I ovulate predictably enough for that to be an option. Any thoughts/ info on this would be appreciated!

My clinic only does long protocol because it gives a higher chance for a succesful pregnancy.

I've done two cycles of short protocol and found them great!

Starts injections cycle day 2 and egg collection 10 days later. Very few side effects

My clinic only does short protocol as studies show fewer eggs create better quality ones - the body isn't designed to produce 20+ eggs at a time which is why people
On long protocol actually end up with the same number of transferable blastocysts as people on short protocol especially if you are in mid to late 30s and older when it's medically proven that fertility is in decline

Clinics prefer long protocol so that they have more control over all the eggs growing at the same rate - in short protocol you can get a couple of recruiter follicles growing ahead of the others

I also do non medicated FET but I have very regular cycles and textbook lining thickness so clinic happy to do them as my cycles are predictable - clinics prefer to do medicated ones so they are in control of the process more

I haven't had success with my 2 cycles yet but i have low AMH and poor egg quality as well as history of ectopic pregnancies and recurrent miscarriage so the odds are against us anyway

I felt like I'd put my body through enough without all the drugs associated with long protocol

It really depends on your clinic - mine specialise in mild short protocol and has the best success rates with it - others don't which is why they say they have better results with long

Short protocol FET

I’ve done a short protocol FET but I won’t know outcome until the 17th. I found it super easy - called the clinic when af arrived, baseline scan on cd2 and started on oestrogen tablets three times per day. Second scan on cd10 showed a good lining so added three progesterone as well as the the oestrogen. Transfer on cd15 and continuing both meds until 12 weeks or bfn.

Absolutely no idea why my clinic chose this protocol, I actually wasn’t aware of different protocols until reading about them on here. I did a short protocol ivf cycle too (ended in freeze all) but not sure that they’re linked.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone, all very confusing isn’t it? It’s not something I’ve found much reliable info online about. Will have to wait to discuss with the consultant. As much as I don’t want to down reg again I don’t want to do something that reduces our chances of success. @Betsyboo87 good luck with your OTD! And to everyone else at whichever stage you are at. X
