Pregnant and on prednisolone

Hi all,

Does anyone have any success stories taking prednisolone during pregnancy to help after multiple losses? I've had 3 losses in 16 months and now the hospital have put me on 20mg prednisolone, 5mg folic acid, clexane injections daily and progesterone pessaries. I'm 5 weeks along and I want and need more than anything for this baby to hang on so I'm just looking for some positive stories!

Hi @rainbow1982,

Similar situation to you.
I am also on prednisolone 10mg, 5mg folic acid, daily clexane injections and utrogestan (2 pessaries morning and evening). First ever positive on cycle 7 and like you desperate for it to stay with me...I'm 6 weeks and have been told to start reducing the medicines gradually between weeks 8-10 and this petrifies me. So, no advice as such, just a hand hold and hoping someone else will come along with a positive story or two!

rainbow1982 · 11/10/2019 16:19

That's really nice of you to reply hun thanks so much, I could do with a hand hold and will happily hold yours too 😊

How are you coping mentally? I've had a few good days but then today accidentally read about early losses on a fb group I'm in and it got to me, I've left the group now because I'm a bit too 'fragile' to cope with any heartbreaking news at the mo. I'm not working now also as after 3 losses it was getting too difficult to stay in work so we agreed for me to quit and throw myself into this, it's fantastic but man it's hard to keep occupied!!!

Hi ladies!

Please can I join you both?

I have had 4 losses and am on:

Pregnacare & fish oil
Extra vitamin d
Like you both I am on progesterone and pred
And omeprazole

However I'm taking it from ovulation, currently 3 days post ovulation. Congratulations on your big positives ladies xx

rainbow1982 · 11/10/2019 18:13

Of course you can sista!!! Keeping everything crossed for you 🤞🤞this is the hardest journey EVER!!! xx 🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

I also took pregnacare plus fish oil and extra vitamin d, I had vit d tested recently and it was 84 which doctor said was incredible! I've read tons of studies in the importance of vitamin d for preventing miscarriage so we're doing all we can!!! 👍🌈

@rainbow1982

Ahhhh have you had a scan yet? How soon after ovulation did you know you was pregnant? 😍😍 xxxxxx

rainbow1982 · 12/10/2019 05:56

No not yet, our first one is booked for the 25th of October when I'll be 7+1, it feels like AGES away!! My fears are unbelievable and it's taking a lot to stay calm, we've had a lot of horrendous experiences with scans, the worst one being making it to 9 weeks and paying for a private scan where there was no heartbeat so just thinking about the scan terrifies me. I'm concentrating on nourishing my body with tons of fresh veg, fruit and lean proteins and reading/watching box sets to distract myself! That coupled with all the drugs calms me a bit as I know I'm doing everything possible, if that makes sense?

I tested on the day my period was due and got my strongest positive yet! I'd even forgot to do the test as I was positive I wasn't pregnant as I had what I thought was major pmt. I realised I forgot and dipped the test in the loo and it still came up!!

When are you due on?

Hi ladies did you find your medication made you feel sicky? 4dpo and feeling a little peaky. Not sure the meds are agreeing with me:(

rainbow1982 · 13/10/2019 07:15

No none of them have made me feel sick

OP posts:
sistaaa · 13/10/2019 12:23

@rainbow1982 oh really!!

Gosh, do you think I could have pregnancy symptoms this early? My boobs have become tender too today! I was thinking possibly the progesterone? How are you feeling? Xxxx

Botanica · 16/10/2019 05:13

I'm on the same and am now at 28 weeks!
progesterone
Clexane
Prednisalone
Baby aspirin

I would swap the folic acid for a better quality natural folate - much better for you and the baby.

Other things I take are
Quality prenatal (Seeking Health)
Vitamin D
Fish Oil DHA
Iron
Choline

TinyPaws · 16/10/2019 08:58

I was on a similar protocol this time, I'm now 13 weeks after 3 early losses.

rainbow1982 · 16/10/2019 15:25

Tiny paws and botanica are u both on the mess past 12 weeks? I'm only on them til 12 weeks but it doesn't feel right and I feel they should continue? Congratulations to you both and it's so reassuring for me knowing these meds are working for us ladies with multiple losses 👍🤞🌈xx

I hope you all don't mind me asking but do any of you know how many days post ovulation did you all get a positive test? X

mirror9 · 16/10/2019 15:29

Rainbow I was on the same protocol as you after 7 loses. I've got my almost 3 year old and 9 month old both taking a nap on top of me as I type! Good luck

rainbow1982 · 16/10/2019 15:59

Sistaa I had my last period on the 5th of September and got my bfp on the 2nd October, I believe I ovulated on the 15th ish of September. When are you due on?

Have you had any other symptoms than the nausea? Not that it matters to be honest, this is my 5th pregnancy and it's been different every time so good luck!!

OP posts:
Botanica · 16/10/2019 15:59

@rainbow1982 the doctors were happy to bring me off progesterone and Prednisalone at 12 weeks but I was feeling very anxious about it so they agreed to keep me on.

Research says it has done its job by then and there's no added value beyond that point so it should in theory be fine.

I just felt that I couldn't live with it if something happened and I was always wondering what if. For context I'm early forties so this really is probably my last chance.

We agreed to stay on to viability and then start weaning off.

rainbow1982 · 16/10/2019 16:00

Mirror9 that really fills my heart with hope thankyou so so much!! Were u on all meds just up to 12 weeks? x

OP posts:
rainbow1982 · 16/10/2019 16:01

Botanica thanks so much, the mental side of it is enormous isn't it? Now I'm on all these meds I really feel absolutely everything is being done so coming off them petrifies me!!

OP posts:
rainbow1982 · 16/10/2019 16:02

Can I please also ask the ladies who had all these meds if they masked your pregnancy symptoms? I've never felt this good in any other pregnancy, literally my only symptom is very sore boobs when I've been floored totally every other time!!

OP posts:
TinyPaws · 16/10/2019 17:27

The prednisolone suppressed my nausea and vomiting considerably. I didn't realise quite how much until I weaned off it towards the end of the first trimester and promptly started vomiting - a lot.

Botanica · 16/10/2019 18:05

I have had a completely symptomless pregnancy and have felt amazing throughout!

No nausea, no sickness, no aches, no pains...
... just a lovely growing bump and nice glowing hair, skin and nails!

I was wondering whether this was due to the medications so interesting to hear you also noticing this too...

I have honestly never felt better.

Botanica · 16/10/2019 18:06

I should also add that I am on lots of vitamins and supplements too and eating well so I'm sure that's playing it's part too.

rainbow1982 · 16/10/2019 18:23

Botanica yes I'm hoping that my good diet and supplements is also contributing, then at least we won't feel like utter rubbish when we stop!

Well tbh I have a mega healthy day, like yesterday was porridge for brek, huge prawn salad for lunch then soup and rice cakes for tea but today I've had a pasty and a white bread sandwich, in between some scrambled egg and satsumas! All about balance I guess!!
