Hi all,

I have never written a post on here but thought it may be nice to get a thread going for anyone about to start ICSI/IVF. I am 28 and have been ttc for almost a year and have recently found out my husband has a very low sperm count (2 million) and ICSI is our only option. I was sure for so long something must be wrong with me so to find out it was him was a complete shock and I think we are both still adjusting. Fortunately we are able to go private and have my appointment to get the ball rolling on Wednesday. I have had a (all clear) and all of the bloods already so hoping we can get cracking next month so I am eager to get started. Everything is apparently fine with me apart from very mild pcos which I have been told shouldn’t effect my chances! I am still very anxious about the whole situation and just praying that the process will be successful.

If anyone has any tips or is in the same boat feel free to join!

@NS05 I'm not up to that stage yet but it's oestrogen tablets then progesterone pessaries for me.

NS05 · 12/11/2019 19:47

Yes @Naughtyboob I'm the same! Just instead of 2 pessaries 1 injection 1 pessarie to ensure the progesterone definitely absorbs apparently! I bet you mustn't have long to go now to start your cycle!

@NS05 im just on the pessaries in the morning and evening too. Sounds horrible having more injections, especially if they are causing you so much pain. Other than that, are you all for Friday?

NS05 · 12/11/2019 20:02

Yes @PotatoJam so excited but also quite nervous- I can't believe it's actually happening! I think the 2WW will be the hardest part! Is yours tomorrow? Xx

PotatoJam · 12/11/2019 20:51

@NS05 yeah im in tomorrow morning 😁. The 2ww is gonna be so hard! Im not sure if im going to be able to test before i should 😬 Have you got anything planned to keep yourself occupied? Xxx

NS05 · 12/11/2019 21:10

Aw good luck! No I am just gonna rest this weekend and work next week! I watched lots of YouTube videos and found the below tips who knows if they'll help but I'm gonna try!! Probably not going to make a huge difference but I thought I'd share in case anyone's interested. Have you got any plans @PotatoJam ?

Tips:
Keeping feet warm/having warm foods
Watching funny films- apparently laughing after transfer is good
Having Brazil nuts per day -2/3
No fragrance day of transfer- apparently embryos hate this
One slice of pineapple core each day from transfer until 4 days after- bromelian aids implantation
Small glass of pomegranate juice each day helps blood flow
Zita west ivf cd - useful helps relax
Blueberries/ avocado - good foods to have in 2WW

@NS05 yeah hopefully any day now, im a week late! Did you have to wait for a cycle to start for yours?
@potatojam good luck for tomorrow!! Hopefully I won't be too far behind you both!
My clinic told us no perfumes or deodorants day of egg collections or transfers for me or husband and there are signs up about it.
I've heard about the pineapple one will be doing that. And apparently light exercise like small walks etc to keep blood flowing to uterus after ET is meant to be good. I'm going to try and take a week off but depends when it falls if I can take it or not with it getting close to Christmas now!

PotatoJam · 12/11/2019 21:58

@NS05 i have a few bits on like visiting friends and family to keep myself occupied but just going to try and relax a bit and then also just get on with normal life ... if i can!

I love the list of tips! Im a total sucker for all these things that might help.... I recorded Mrs doubtfire the other day, that film makes me laugh so much ... i shall watch that tomorrow night while nibbling on brazil nuts, pineapple, blueberries and avocado and sipping pomegranate juice 🤣

PotatoJam · 12/11/2019 22:07

@Naughtyboob thankyou ☺ hopefully it comes soon for you and you can get going with the process again! It must be frustrating waiting!

NS05 · 13/11/2019 18:26

How did it go @PotatoJam ?! Xx

PotatoJam · 13/11/2019 21:36

It went ok thanks @NS05. Quite a pleasant experience compared to everything else so far! It was so amazing seeing the wee blast being fired into my womb ... looked like a shooting star! 🤣

Doesnt look like im going to have any to feeeze which is quite dissapointing but they are going to phone tomorrow and let me know. Just hoping this wee one inside me can survive and grow 😬🤞

Youngatheart00 · 13/11/2019 21:48

Glad it went well @PotatoJam. I’m in the same boat re unexpectedly nothing to freeze so i know exactly how you’re feeling.

As the days have passed I’ve become more ok with it though and more focused on the embies inside.

Sending best wishes to you and everyone else this evening. Isn’t this a waiting game? Waiting to start treatment....waiting to move through treatment, 1 type of injections then 2....then trigger....etc etc and it just goes on!

I swear us IVF’ers will have heavily practiced ‘patience muscles’ if such a thing exists!

PotatoJam · 13/11/2019 23:29

@Youngatheart00 im pleased you are feeling better about it as the days go by. How are you finding the 2ww? Yes ... i think its one of the hardest games ive ever played!!

Naughtyboob · 14/11/2019 07:23

Fingers crossed for you @PotatoJam really hope it works!!!
I have come on this morning!! Woo hoo can start my tablets today!!

NS05 · 14/11/2019 07:45

Amazing @PotatoJam you've made me feel excited for tomorrow I've been so anxious!!! Woo amazing @Naughtyboob! Hope the 2WW isn't going too slow @Youngatheart00 !

@Naughtyboob that's great :-)
@NS05 how are you feeling about tomorrow?

NS05 · 14/11/2019 15:14

@LucyLucyT I'm quite nervous but excited to finally be having it! You guys have made me feel quite calm about the process as I imagined it to be really painful. With my husbands sperm count we have only had a 2 percent chance of falling pregnant and my dr said for my age with a blastocyst it's 65 percent so much better odds!! Just praying it works but also need to be prepared that it may not! Will just be positive for now and hope for the best!

LucyLucyT · 14/11/2019 18:22

@NS05 wow that's great odds! Let us know how you get on. The transfer was always okay for me, liked the little nap I got 😂

Naughtyboob · 14/11/2019 20:06

@NS05 good luck for tomorrow will be thinking of you xx
