We are wanting to do 1 more ICSI cycle.

We have a 4 yr old (after 4 cycles) and wanting a sibling.
We had a cycle in November but it was a massive failure with no eggs fertilizing. We know the reasons why this happened.

We were just about to start another cycle in February, but realised we were not in a good financial situation, so we pulled out last minute.

The story is quite complex as i blamed the clinic as to why my cycle failed (long story)
As a result, the clinic offered me a few extras for free (the scratch and embyroscope). Because of my complaint, i did have quite alot of communication with my consultant and if im honest, i was pushy and impatient at times, but i cant blame myself for this, it was such an emotional time.
So, it was so hard to make the decision not to continue back in feb. When i emailed my consultant, he didnt even reply. Nothing. That stung a little but i kinda figured, he was simply sick of me.

Anyway, back to today. We are in such a better place. We can now afford to fund the cycle ourselves rather than putting it on the credit card.
I emailed my consultant 2 weeks ago, i got an out of office reply telling me he was on holiday, and would be back Tuesday 13th (Tuesday just gone)

I emailed him as in February, we already had a protocol in place, dosage etc (i was literally a week away from starting) so i was asking him whether we could pick up where we left off or would i need to start the process again and get referred from my GP.

I know this is only the 3rd day of him being back, i havent heard a reply yet.

Time is of the essence for reasons id rather not disclose.

Do i just wait or shall i go to my GP and get referred anyway?
Its been 6 months nearly since i was there so im not sure if ive dropped from the system so to speak.

Thanks

I don't think you'll need a GP referral - as you have a child your not entitled to IVF on the NHS (unless you're in Ireland - rbi k they have different rules)

I'd be pretty frustrated with consultant for not returning emails - would you not look to go to a different clinic?

Hi,

For treatment at my local hospital, we do need a GP referral unfortunately. Its just their process.
Slightly frustrating as if i do have get GP to refer me again... it will cost me £200!!!

Also, i dont want to go to another clinic. Its so local to us, my OH sperm is stored there, prices are reasonable and they have good success rates.
I firmly believe they could make my next cycle successful again.

I would phone the clinic rather than email the consultant

Hi

I did call his secretary to ensure he had received the email.
Its common practise at this clinic to be in contact with the consultant via email, well, it was on my last cycle last year.

I suspect it is just too early to have expected a response, and a busy time of year. As a consultant, I often have 200 + emails to deal with following a holiday, in addition to day to day work and have little "admin time" allocated in my working week. With respect (I do understand why so sorry if this reads harshly, it isn't meant in that way), you delayed the treatment, so can't expect to restart at the drop of a hat. They may well want up to date tests. Good luck.

Yeah, im impatient at the best of times.

I did go to my GP on friday to get reffered, just to cover all basis. At least the ball is rolling either way.

The reason i emailed my consultant was to ask just that. I wasnt expecting to just start at the drop of the hat. I was seeking guidance on whether it could work that way, or would i need to be referred again. Either or, im happy with, but i didnt want to waste £200 or my GP's time if i could just pick up where i left off.

Xx
