Hi everyone

After TTC for a year I went to my GP and asked for a referral. Appointment has came through for September. Found out recently that Husband has low sperm count and motility issues. Suspect this is due to a varicocele. We haven’t told anyone and it’s so lonely :( most of my friends are mums or mums to be and busy with their own lives. Would love to chat to others in the same boat! Xx

Hi @duckling3 and everyone else! Time feels like it's dragging but so nice to hear things are happening for some of us! I'm further behind in the journey than a lot of you I think! But will share where I'm at in case anyone lurking is interested! Fertility clinic told us all my bloods are normal so far. Had another 21 day bloods done, and chlamydia and AMH check but won't get the results til our next appointment in Jan! Seems forever away. Partner had first SA test Friday and I have vaginal ultrasound tomorrow - eek! Hoping AF will have cleared by then - it says on letter it's completely fine to have it with AF but the thought grosses me out! But don't want to delay anything. Won't get any results tho until our appointment on 21st Jan! Trying to be positive we'll conceive before then but losing hope!!

Have any of you been advised to cut out caffeine completely? I'm trying to only drink decaf but know it's still some caffeine. At the clinic they told me there's new research saying that caffeine affect signaling between the sperm and the egg??! Have tried searching online but nothing!

@scotgirl the waiting feels like a killer doesn't it? Although it sounds like I may have been lucky, no waiting lists yet. It's taken about 2 months since we were told ivf was our best option, 1 month sorting out nhs funding and a month to wait for an appointment

duckling3 · 10/11/2019 18:44

5_6 months is tough, hopefully it won't take that long!

duckling3 · 10/11/2019 18:46

@bewilderedbee thats really interesting about the caffeine. I was drinking a lot of caffeine at work before and really do wonder if that is impacting things for us. Are you a big caffeine drinker?

BewilderedBee · 10/11/2019 19:39

@duckling3 I used to drink lots, probably like 4/5 cups a day. Since TTC have cut down knowing it's not good, so have mainly drank decaf at home and maybe 2 cups of normal coffee in work during the day! Trying to cut it down again now. Only had 2 cups of decaf today! And the same yesterday, it's so hard trying to completely do without a coffee tho!!

@duckling3 I can be fine for ages and then it hits me and I just want it to be now. I need to learn how to be patient!

@BewilderedBee I think the NHS recommends you have no more than 3 cups per day. I think when we officially start IVF I’ll give it up

hi can I join?

was ttc for 1 year before seeing gp. we have male factor infertility. we were referred to hospital in may and had first consultation in september. we've had a few scans and blood tests since now just waiting for the next stage- a group session. did anyone else have their initial appointment in september? do you have a date for when you'll be starting? we are self funding, so not sure if it makes a difference as it's still a nhs hospital.
sorry to hear about all your fertility problems but best of luck on your journeys everyone Smile

Well I had the appointment with the consultant. Looks like we will be starting in jan cause the clinic closes down over Christmas. I did expect it would be jan but still a bit dissapointed to have to wait another 2 months. Fingers crossed with Christmas between now and then it'll fly by.

duckling3 · 11/11/2019 18:20

In case anyone is interested the consultant have me some things to do to improve our chances:
High protein low carb diet
Coq10 supplement
Increase Omega 3 intake
Vitamin b c and d supplement
Low caffeine
Low alcohol
Accupuncture

Hi ivfmommatobe. We has our first appointment September and will hopefully be starting in January

Scotgirl1 · 11/11/2019 19:34

@duckling3 January always comes round so fast. You can enjoy the build up to Christmas and then you’ve got that to look forward too. Exciting! Do you take vitamins currently? Both me and hubby are on pregnacare / welman conception. I always wonder if they are enough. I’ve heard of coq10 being good. I had accupuncture when TTC. I found it really relaxing and I think I’ll start it up again during treatment.

@IVFmommatobe welcome Smile I also had my appointment in September but I’m NHS. Might be January as ducking3 has said due to Xmas. Not far off at all though!
