The journey after BFP

Hi all
We have a BFP and currently week 5+2
Our scan is on 30th July.
The wait is really hard and keeping fingers and toes crossed for everything to go well.
Is anyone going through similar or at the same stage?

Hi @dannyjpagedannyjpage, congratulations! Have you been having fertility treatment or is this a natural conception? Such a difficult time - so much waiting and uncertainty!

You're a week ahead of me - we are 4+2, I think EDD is 27th March 2020. We've been TTC my first for about 2.5yrs, not entitled to NHS IVF so have been self funding. First IVF round ended at 5 weeks as chemical pregnancy in May. This cycle, I started getting BFPs on home urine tests much earlier on at 3+2 and HCG blood test 2 days ago was much higher than last cycle so fingers crossed this pregnancy is off to a better start than the last one!

We have a 6.5 week scan booked for 8th August. Feels like ages to wait!

@FlipKat we do sound like we are on similar journeys. We also did not get IVF so are self funded. Which clinic are you? we are Bourn Hall in Cambridgeshire.
We tested from 5 days post transfer which was a negative. Faint line on 6dpt. Then 7dpt it was a good solid line and BFP.
Congratulations it will be nice to share the journey

@FlipKat we have not had a blood test. Who did that? Was it the clinic or GP?
Did you have a single or multiple transfer?

I'm with Create in London. Both our fresh cycle and this frozen one we opted for single transfers. How about you?

The clinic include a one-off HCG blood test at 10dpt in the IVF price package, and any more are needed it is £100 a go. To be honest, I don't think having a blood test adds much - they are very expensive and didn't give us any extra information really, and for these reasons GPs are not really supposed to do them. During my chemical pregnancy in May the blood test showed a clear positive but as it wasn't super high they asked me to come back every other day. Over multiple blood tests we watched the level go up, plateau for a while, then finally fall. I was also doing daily urine tests at home and the line intensities showed the same thing. So this time I'm saying no to the extra blood tests!

Yes, it will be nice to share the journey! Maybe we will get some others joining us. Are you having any symptoms?

dannyjpage · 21/07/2019 13:19

@FlipKat we did a multiple transfer. We started with 9 eggs of which 5 fertilised. We transferred the 2 and the remaining we were told were not suitable for freezing. So all outlets hoped are on these 2.
Thanks for the info on the blood tests. I agree with you that they don't provide much information and the scan will be more conclusive.
We have done so many pregnancy tests but have stopped now as too fearful of getting a line fainter than the previous. I underestimated just how tough it would be after the positive and getting through the first 12 weeks.
I'm the husband but my wife has had sore boobs and dark Areola (hope I got that naming right lol). Also she is very bloated with some manageable pain, she described it similar to period pain. The clinic said this was likely a result of the treatment and the ovaries repairing themselves. She hasn't had any nausea yet though but is very tired with multiple power naps throughout the day.
I wish there was more I could do, but I'm doing the running about and all the jobs so she can relax. Have you had symptoms?

@dannyjpage sorry for the slow reply - I've been getting some pain last few days so was a bit worried. I know I shouldn't have but I did another pregnancy test. Happily it came up with a mega strong line instantly, which was reassuring. Interesting your wife has been getting period like pains too - I guess probably this is normal, though I'm finding it hard not to worry at every twinge! I've not got any nausea yet either though I've heard this often starts from about 6 weeks.

Really good that your wife is taking time to relax with you doing all the jobs. My partner has been really good too - he has even taken over emptying the cats litter tray, which I know he really dislikes.

I suppose not much else for us all to do but be patient and wait for our scans!

dannyjpage · 24/07/2019 14:01

@FlipKat No problem. Your pain does sound similar to what my wife had. The clinic were very calm and reassured us it was normal but I understand it's easy to worry about even the smallest of changes. I'm pleased you had a strong line on the test and you have that reassurance. I hope you are home in front of a fan during this hot weather. We only have one update on our side. So we have the viability scan at the clinic on Tuesday but we have booked one at a private clinic tomorrow. It's a bit naughty I know and we are fully aware it may be too early to see anything but we just couldn't wait. So nervous it is unreal. It is so nice to be at a similar stage and share the journey. Fingers and toes crossed for us all.
P.s grass cut last night and housework done before work. I'm so pleased we don't have a cat haha. Lots of bonus points there for your husband. Smile

@FlipKat oh also still no nausea here. I think your right that it's possibly after 6 weeks. We bought one of those pressure bands off amazon so prepared just in case.
