Waiting for karyotyping/PGS/PGD results

Anyone waiting for results before moving on with a cycle? I'm trying not to worry about the results but it's hard not to.

I have not done this -but could I ask how long these tests take?

LillyLeaf · 24/06/2019 21:57

The karyotyping blood tests (for me and DP) can take up to 4 weeks. Then pgs can take 2 weeks but it probably depends on where they are sent. It's been nearly 2 weeks since we did the blood test and depending on the result we will then do the pgs or pgd.

Got our karyotyping results back, both me and DP are 'normal'. I'm really stuck about what to do next. Either do an FET without pgs and transfer 2. Or pgs test our remaining 3 embryos and go from there, either FET with normal embryos or fresh cycle if all 'abnormal'. We are self funded. Anyone been in this situation? What would you do?

Hi @LillyLeaf,
Similar situation here, both karyotypes are fine, but we had a couple miscarriages, one confirmed chromosomal issue and one blighted ovum (doctor said likely also chromosomal).
We were strongly recommended PGS, which we did on our first cycle. Unfortunately, all 4 blastocysts were abnormal. But was told that is really rare at my age (35). Now we are waiting to see if we will have any blastos to send off to PGS in the next couple days, following our second IVF cycle.

Given our experience, I would recommend it as it potentially saved me from 4 miscarriages..

Hi @Nats19 the reason we're thinking about this is that my first 2 transfers (only transfers) ended in MC so trying to reduce that happening again. None of our MCs were tested so I’m a little in the dark about why it happened. I've had various recurrent miscarriage tests on me so it's likely it was chromosomal issues. I’m 36 so really hoping at 1 of our remaining 3 embryos is normal. I am fully aware that you can still miscarry a ‘normal’ embryo so wondering if there is any point in the costly pgs. It’s so hard to know what to do. fingers crossed your recent pgs has a better result.

Thanks @LilyLeaf, appreciate it.
I know, it is a really tough decision. In the end, we know all the uncertainties, options, alternatives, and I guess it comes down to a personal decision. I like to have as much information as possible, and wanted to do what I could to try to avoid another miscarriage- so I prioritised PGS. It also saves a little time too. Good luck with the decision, I hope all goes well for you!
