I had my HSG today, I remmeber reading somewhere that it's painful if the tubes are blocked? As the pressure builds because there is no where for the liquid to go?

Anyone had a painful HSG and given the all clear?

@Rspu1384 completely understand. That's why I asked to be referred back to nhs in the end because it was getting too expensive. I've had my medication now, it's just if I need ivf, I'm back on the nhs!
Yes, keep ringing!! There's a possibility there'll be a cancellation, there's no harm in trying.
Yes, that could well be the case, so try not to stress over it. Like you say, it may not be blocked. Fingers crossed for you that it'll all be ok.
I know, I research like mad trying to find answers for things! Sometimes it's good before the appts then though because you have the tiniest bit of knowledge to know a little of what they're talking about lol.
Hope you will have a cancellation slot and all will be ok anyway. Good luck xx

@wineorgin how was everything for you?

Thankyou @Kelly199 good luck to you too!
I’ve phoned and asked about cancellations there’s none at the moment but said to call back in a few weeks as there’s likely to be some because of holidays coming up now, so Thankyou again for the advice.

@Rspu1384 fingers crossed you'll have a slot from a cancellation, just keep trying xx
@WineOrGin that's what happened to me! I ended up being too tense and they have to leave me relax before taking things out!
Good news you're ovulating.
No problem. I was given clomid (although it was discovered that I do ovulate, but later than expected). I wanted to try it anyway. I have it for another 5 cycles and if no success, onto ivf. It has helped though as my first cycle with it I had one large follicle and two smaller ones, but only the one large one released and it regulated my cycle a little and my progesterone bloods were a higher result, so I'd say it was worth trying xx

Hi all,

I had a call from my consultant both tubes are blocked. So I'm waiting to see what can be done.

Becareful doing from NHS to private and back again, some people are refused ivf on the NHS because they went private. Any excuse to not fund.

@WineOrGin don't be silly, it's fine. That's what we're all here for! Support and our unanswered questions!
It didn't take too long for me as I paid privately for a few appts.
It can take a while though as it depends when you can go for the appointments and some of them have to be on specific days etc.
I had been ttc for over a year by the time I went to the gp in early Jan and off contraception for 3 years.
Had various appts with gp for bloods etc. before being referred to specialist. Then had to have hycosy and transvaginal ultrasounds and more bloods which confirmed pcos (paid privately for initial appt, hycosy and follow up so this obviously sped things up. Mainly paid private as in my area, there's only one done a month and you've got to ring up on the day and hope you'll get seen, otherwise onto another month and then it could fall on weekend and another month gone etc.).
After all that, I had the clomid prescribed. Then asked to be referred back to nhs as was getting too expensive. My first cycle was April and I'm currently taking the clomid for cycle 2.
With clomid, you need to have monitoring for at least the first cycle to make sure the dosage is right for you. I was advised initially I'd need 3 transvaginal scans that month, but ended up having 2 as I didn't need the one in between. Also had to have day 21 bloods during the cycle too. I have 5 more months of clomid left now, but don't need anymore scans at the moment as the dosage was ok for me.
Yes, agree with @ClaryFray. Make sure you check your area if you're doing a mix just in case, but the NHS website states you're entitled to do it as long as you're not using it to your benefit and taking advantage of services. I checked with my gp and gynaecologist before going private to make sure this was the case. I'm almost 100% sure that you can't have ivf privately and then try on nhs as they won't allow this, but appointments to try and shorten your wait are fine (as far as I know and in my area so please check first). Sorry for the essay lol x

@wineorgin how could they tell you ovulated from the hsg? I asked if they could see anything going on and if my ovary looked ok but she said she couldn’t tell by a hsg as it only shows the outline of the uterus and tubes. Found it quite fascinating to be honest but freaky lol. I’m really hoping my left tube isn’t blocked and it was a spasm or something but will have to wait and see. Sorry to hear that @claryfray do you know what your next steps are now? X

I'm glad I've found this thread as have been worried about this procedure!
Am booked in for mine in a few weeks.
Will take some pain relief beforehand. Mine is an early appointment so may have cold contrast Blush

ClaryFray · 04/05/2019 09:53

I don't know my next steps my follow up appt isn't until 24th May. But I couldnt wait for the appt and called to ask because the hospital have been messing my HSG around since December.

Have to wait until then tto get any idea what's next.

@MayZ seriously don’t worry yourself sick about it, I did and the worrying was the worst part honestly. I read and read google asking the same things and I got so nervous from reading it was very painful. I have anxiety so I was literally shaking with fear. It was really just a bit of period pain I was actually waiting for it to get more intense and then it was over as soon as they took it out it stopped. They also might have a nurse stand by your side this really helped me as I held her hand and we just talked and giggled it did make a difference for me. Good luck and don’t worry x

Ladies in just looking for a bit of advice. As I wrote on this thread i had my hsg last week, she didn’t spill through left tube. I’ve noticed an ache in my left side, I get it a few times a day not painful but just a noticeable achy feeling. Anyone had the same? Or know what it could be? Should I go to the doctors? X

Rspu1384 · 09/05/2019 09:38

*dye the dye didn’t spill not she! Lol
