So...

Today my copy of "It starts with the egg" book arrived. I've only just finished the 1st chapter and it makes for some very interesting reading - if pretty full on!!

I am planning on starting a wee trial or "experiment", if you like, to see if the books recommendations actually work! I plan on doing what the book suggests!

About me:
I'm 36 and TTC for AGES (4 years and counting!). We got pregnant at the start of the 4 years but sadly and traumatically it ended in a miscarriage at 12 weeks 😥😥. Have been through the whole infertility rigmarole (blood tests, dildo cam, metformin, clomid) and now on list for IVF! We are still hoping we get pregnant before the actual IVF 🤞🤞 Oh and during being poked and prodded it was discovered I have PCOS!!

I'd love to hear from anyone who has read the book and their thoughts, or to anyone else who has done what book suggests!

❤️❤️

Hi @truckersmrs. I have also read the book and also been trying for 4 years.

I read the first edition about 3 months before we did our first ivf round (sadly a bfn for us). I found it tricky to get the balance between not being too obsessive over it yet putting into practice some things. I am currently reading the second edition which I think is a bit better for this, she makes more suggestions for being realistic about how much you can change!
I have since been taking 100 ubiquinol everyday and we have changed our soaps, shampoos and plastics.
I don’t know if it made any difference to the quality of my eggs but I feel better for having made some proactive changes in our lives so we feel we are doing what we can. I may well up the ubiquinol dosage after reading the second edition.

Good luck in ttc whilst waiting for the ivf - i was told a lot by drs that it can happen quite frequently! I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the book also.

I read the book after IVF in January showed poorer egg quality than expected and history of recurrent miscarriage - I'm 35 - I started taking 200mg daily of Coq10 and also Proceive Max supplements (which contains more coq10 and higher doses of anything I found in Boots) as well as fertility acupuncture - 2 months later got my first BFP x

@ahem12345
@Brambles7

Thank you both for your replies. I've only read the 1st chapter, but it has some interesting points - food for thought! Hopefully once I've read it through I can make some positive changes. And who knows... maybe even see a BFP at long last!!

I just feel I need to be in control of something... or at least pretend I'm in control of something 🤪

@Brambles7

I hadn't realised how much plastic we use 😱 I think it's going to take some time (and effort!) to change the way we cook and store items! I've even looked up local dairies that deliver milk to your door in glass bottles!!

@ahem12345

Thank you for your tip re procieve supplements - looks like they are packed with good stuff! Did you DP take the equivalent for men? And many congratulations for your BFP!!

I am finding "It starts with the egg" a pretty full on book... but it kinda makes sense - at least to my non-scientific brain!

This technique doesn’t work for pcos and other fertility impacting conditions. So it’s always a good idea to get a full fertility check up first. I wasted so much time and money on temping / opks etc.

Brambles7 · 21/04/2019 16:57

@Truckersmrs yes the plastics bit was a real eye opener for me! It never occurred to me that some of them could mess with hormones so much and yet be so widely used.
I know what you mean about it at least feeling like you’re taking back a wee bit of some control over something we don’t have much control over!

Ditto for the CoQ10, and a water and fat-soluble form absorbs better!

Ijustlikefood · 23/04/2019 12:37

Can anyone post links to where they purchased Ubiquinol from? Thanks

Brambles7 · 23/04/2019 12:53

I got mine from Holland and Barrett. It’s not cheap though!

Hi 👋🏻 we were 7 years ttc and had undertaken two rounds of ivf as we were "unexplained" when I read the book I adopted the "supplements menu" from the back for my age group 37 at the time and tried to reduce plastics/improve eating etc (even more than before 🙄 as you ladies know when ttc we all try). I had a consultation with a new ivf clinic for what would have been our third and final ivf he approved the plan added in DHEA and a couple of other vitamins and increased the ubiquinol dose in Jan 17 fell pregnant naturally March 17 and had pfb October 17.

Just a wee update...

I've read the book (It starts with the egg) and it definitely makes for interesting reading! I find it all quite interesting and what makes it worthwhile (for me at least!) is the advice is gathered from research. I'm no scientist, but it sure does give me hope!!

So what have I done?

I have made some changes with how I store and prepare food - I don't use plastic containers or plastic chopping boards. I've replaced my plastic water bottle with a metal one. I've also really tried to change what soaps, shampoos and cleaning products I use.

I have also started taking supplements... and spent a fortune on Ubiquinol - so it better be worth it 🤣🤣🤣

The next big change for me is really getting back on track with my weight loss!

I CAN DO THIS!!
