Hi,
I am at the start of the IVF journey and would like to have a realistic picture of what is going to happen and how long it will take! I have had tests from the gp, (started in November) and from the SA it is obvious we are going to need ICSI. The GP (after waiting 6 weeks for an appointment with them!!) has now referred us to our local gynae clinic for fertility medicine. The wait for that is until June.

That hospital doesn’t do IVF, so what should I expect at that appointment? Will they expect tests to be repeated? Will they just look at our test results and refer us to a clinic that does IVF?! How long have people generally waited from referral from GP to starting IVF treatment?

Sorry for all the questions, I just will find the length of time for everything to happen much easier to deal with emotionally if I have an idea of how long it will take! (I was a mess when I was told I had to wait until June for an appointment in a centre that doesn’t even have IVF as an option!!!)
Thanks in advance!

What tests have you had already? Our local fertility clinic ordered some more for me that the GP can't order, one that checks the tubes aren't blocked and then repeated one of the blood tests as they wanted to double check the result. The results were sent through the post and about three weeks later we had a follow up to tell us we needed IVF but to keep trying anyway.

Does your CCG offer IVF treatment? Ours doesn't, so after we got our diagnosis from the fertility clinic we were on our own and obviously private you can go as quickly or slowly as you want!

Hey,
I have had full blood count, 21 day (adjusted to my cycle) progesterone, Ultrasound scan, Gynae swabs.

They all apparently came back normal, I was questioning the progesterone at 26.9, as I have 9 day luteal phase and low post ovulation temps, but the GP said 26.9 is consistent with ovulation and he was happy with that number.

Luckily our CCG offers one cycle. (It used to offer 3, but in recent years has dropped to 1) I am so aware how lucky we are to be offered one, the postcode lottery is one of the worst things about the nhs.

( I work in the nhs and had a meeting yesterday with my CCG about funding for one of my teams services, and wanted to scream at them when they were talking about reducing funding when I know my neighbour CCG has so much more funding for the service I already struggle to provide!!!) 🙄
