Salpingectomy

Hi,

I've recently had a bi-lateral Salpingectomy to enable me to have a better chance at a successful IVF cycle. Has anyone else had this procedure and what was the recovery process? It was performed laparoscopically so only 3 small incisions but it's 4 days later and I am still in agony. Can't walk or stand properly and every time I move it feels like something is pushing against one of the cuts from inside. I've been back to hospital and no sign of infection etc, so I'm guessing it's the norm? But I'm not sure and it's starting to worry me! Most websites I have looked at suggest that you could be back in work in 5 days but I could never get work at the moment. If anyone has been through the same thing it would be good to hear about your experience! Thanks!

Is bi lateral both tubes? I had a single tube removed and without sounding like I'm gloating it was a walk in the park I felt abit sore for a few days afterwards and had to keep padded dressings on the wounds or my clothes rubbed them but I don't remember any internal pain. I went back to work the week after and I was fine. We all process pain and recover differently I obviously had a good experience fingers crossed you start to feel better soon. On another note I had mine removed to improve chances of sucess for IVF and I'm currently 39 weeks after our first round, good luck x

@TheArtfulScreamer1

Yes, bi-lateral is both. Since my post I've been back to hospital and they have now confirmed an infection in one of the wounds. I have been prescribed antibiotics but still in agony. In fact I've just been crying in pain from climbing the stairs. It's dreadful. Hoping to see an improvement in the next few days or it's back to hospital I go.

So lovely to hear a positive story though, congratulations! As soon as I have recovered my consultant is ready to start our first round of IVF so I really want to get better so we can begin our first (and hopefully last) cycle in April!

Again, really pleased to hear a success story! All the best with the birth Smile

I'm the same I had one removed due to endo/hydro with excision and ovary resection and was back at work after a few week but I know that was really lucky as recovery is usually longer. Had a catheter for a couple of days and 2 nights in hospital as the surgery took 5 hours and they thinned my bowel/bladder out. I then had a baby through IVF too although I needed donor eggs due to POF, definitely better out than in before you start. Hope you feel better soon and good luck!

@Lauren83 thanks for sharing! It's good to know how other people's experiences were to determine if mine is 'normal'. I've been back in hospital today and they have given me stronger antibiotics so hopefully I will be on the mend soon and then we can finally start our IVF. Congratulations on your little one! It's so lovely to hear of positive outcomes, gives me a bit of hope 😊
