Clomid with high BMI

Just wondered if anyone has been prescribed clomid with a high bmi? I've just seen my gynae after 3 cycles of norethisterone failed to kick start me ovulating. I have a 20mo lb and my periods have never returned after having him. All my hormone profiles are normal, as was a scan and I bled on norethisterone so there's physically nothing wrong with me.

She's referring me to a fertility specialist for something like clomid but she said I'd be asked to lose significant weight before starting it. I'm the same weight now as I was when I got pregnant with my lb so it's just really disheartened me that it doesn't sound like an option at my current weight.

My mum was put on clomid before she fell with me, she was also asked to lose weight and did but the clomid really helped and she fell with me quite quickly. Before the clomid she had struggled to conceive for more than 10 years and had at least one miscarriage. But here I am a testament to it having worked at least for her! Good luck, fingers crossed for you!

Losing weight in itself can kick-start ovulation. Even losing 5% of body weight can have a huge improvement on fertility (fat is an endocrine disrupter).

In addition, they encourage bmi under 30 because it's not very ethical for them to treat you and cause a much higher risk pregnancy when it could be avoided.

I've heard optimum bmi for conception is 22-24.

My bmi when I got pregnant was 45, currently 47.

I've just been prescribed 3 months of Clomid and my BMI is currently bang on 35.
Unsure but fairly certain it's to do with the fact I had a mild prolactinoma with still high prolactin levels even after 13 months of taking Bromocriptine. Will start Clomid on my next cycle which is due 10th March. Taken 5 years to get this fair though and wasn't without struggles and constant blaming on my weight. Bromocriptine side effect isnt weight gain but its not weight loss either so extremely hard for me to loose weight while taking it, but can't stop taking it or levels will rise even more.

Did you receive chlomid. I have being ttc for nearly two years and from the issues I have possibly think that Chlomid will be my first option I have already being referred to Seacroft fertility clinic and have my first consultation on the 30th Dec. I have being trying to loose weight and have have joined ww my weight is not 1 1/2 stone down but my BMI is 34.9 from what I have calculated on the nhs website. I am just so scared that they will turn me away due to this

You have a 20 month old and have already been referred for help?

SophieOAS23 Just wondering how you got on? I am in excatly the same position and now awaiting for my referral date to come through.

GrumpyHoonMain · 13/01/2020 10:17

I was told clomid “like the pill can cause strokes so my bmi had to be 35 or below. So if you currently wouldn’t be able to get the pill you wouldn’t get climid either.

Amb121 · 13/01/2020 11:18

Thank you for the info! My bmi is currently 36 so hopefully can get it below for when my referral comes!

I have my first appointment next Friday. I am nowhere near a bmi of 35... I'm closer to 40 if the truth be known. I have low progesterone and PCOS. I know I won't be prescribed clomid but am hoping to treat the progesterone if nothing else.

RiaRo · 02/02/2020 18:01

@Ohlovelyjubbly - I'm in a similar position, how did you get on if you don't mind em asking. My first appointment is at the end of this month x

Ohlovelyjubbly · 02/02/2020 19:52

@RiaRo - the gynaecologist prescribed progesterone for one month, said the fertility clinician wouldn't prescribe until a minimum BMI of 35 is reached.
I know there are clinics that will treat with a BMI of 37 so, I'm just going to keep on at it. I have my first expected appointment with said fertility clinician in 6-8 weeks.
It was mentioned by the attending nurse afterwards that effort goes along way and that if it can be seen that the weight is being chipped at then discussions can be had. So, not getting my hopes up but having already lost 1st, I just got to keep my head in the game.
How are you feeling about your appointment?
