Any additional tests after IVF miscarriage?

My first fresh cycle results in a BFP only to miscarry at 10wks (stopped growing at 7+4). We've had the follow up appointment with the clinic and discussed our next FET and options for tests to see if we're at risk for more miscarriages. The tests are totally optional but I am torn. It would be even more money, we've already spent thousands. There is nothing at the moment to suggest the MC wasn't a chromosome issue like most MCs.

Did anyone have any tests post 1 MC before starting another cycle?

Just to add I was advised to have an aquascan, so I think I'll do that. But has anyone had other tests after 1 MC?

I didn't after a MMC, but then after a second FET failed the doctor advised me to have tests - some tests my GP was able to prescribe (thyroid function was one, I think they're called level 1 tests), but then I paid to have a test for natural killer cells. No idea if all that has made a difference as I'm on the two WW!

After just the MMC though, the doctor said that it was probably just a chromosomal abnormality and didn't suggest any tests - it was only after the second transfer failed that he advised it.

On the NHS they will only do tests once you have had 3 miscarriages - they usually test for thyroid issues, auto immune problems, blood clotting etc.
With IVF Clinics I imagine these tests will be really expensive and they may not find anything - no cause was found for my 3 losses - but you won't be eligible to have any testing on the NHS yet.
You could perhaps try another IVF cycle and have the embryos PGS tested for any abnormalities although my IVF clinic said to try a round or two without spending the extra £3k as there no guarantee that the mc were chromosome related either x

That sucks, the whole thing is utterly horrendous to deal with.

For me ivf 2 resulted in pregnancy followed by miscarriage. Then I did FET a few months later resulted in my 2 year old twins.

How many Frosties do you have? Me personally would try a FET next with only getting thyroid checked (not expensive if you have to get private and drugs to treat are also cheap). If only one Frosties maybe I’d be more cautious and have more tests.

Also FET if it’s natural is really easy on your body compared to the full ivf cycle.

@LillyLeaf I've just had the ' miscarriage' blood tests as I've had 3 failed transfers of good day 5 blastocysts. No miscarriage though. My NHS clinic offered them to me to check for implantation issues and clotting issues. For me, the results are normal but i didn't want to 'waste' anymore embryos if there is an underlying issue. Could you ask your GP to do this test to rule it out? They may say no as it was only one but worth an ask?

@Waterdropsdown @ MrsC18 I have 4 more embryos but it's hard not to wonder if I'm wasting them if there is something wrong with me. Thyroid has been checked and is fine. I know this is just anxiety going in another cycle. Scarred incase it doesn't work, scarred of another MC. It's so annoying that this sets you back so many months. I got my BFP in December, it will probably be April before another transfer. Sorry you've all been through this.

Was your thyroid “ok” by nhs standards or “ideal” by fertility standards? I forget the terminology but the reading should be less than 2. Nhs says you are fine if it’s less than 5.
That’s great you have 4 embryos, really really great! Fingers crossed for the next one.
