Hi all,

I was on clomid for several months that didn't really do the job. I was on 50mg for 3 months and didn't really make me ovulate and then I went onto 100mg and currently on cycle day 32 and still haven't ovulated. I have a follicle there that's growing slowly only at 17mm today day 32.

I was given a prescription of letrozole today and told to take it day 2 - 6 as I would clomid. Just wondered if anybody had taken this before and if it actually worked?

I'm so deflated that nothing seems to be happening but everyone around me is getting pregnant. Feel like such a failure as a woman Sad

Xx

Yes I found letrozole brilliant in terms of inducing ovulation, far less side effects than clomid and you can take it more than 6 cycles if you need to. I didn’t get pregnant but have a suspected immune issue. Good luck!

@Lumbar thankyou so much for your response. Thst sounds promising. Although I'm so fee up with the thought thst some thing might work and it doesn't.

I’m on my first month of it after having problems with my endometrial thickness on clomid - had an LH surge on day 20 so fingers crossed!

Mummylaura1988 · 21/02/2019 20:18

@Anaesthetist83 how did you find this compared to clomid? Also did you have many side effects? What are your gut feelings on it? Xx

Pretty similar for me - had headaches with both. Unfortunately this month hasn’t been great for me as I’ve had shingles so I have pretty much ruled out success.... but so far, better for me than clomid.

Letrozole isn’t routinely used at the fertility clinic I am seen at but I asked to give it a go (prior to IUI/IVF) and they agreed.

@Anaesthetist83, is headaches a common side effects to these drugs?

I had a cyst on my brain removed 2 years ago and I was getting headaches but just put that down to the operation I had and the fact that I'm prone to them. I can't wait to start trying them and see if they work for me as clomid didn't really. I have unexplained secondary infertility since my operation. I don't tend to ovulate on my own and even with clomid it still didn't really help. I'm currently on day 33 and still haven't ovulated although my endo lining is thick. Just doesn't make sense. Hopefully this new drug works for me. Have u ever heard of fertility smart conceive for women? The reviews look amazing. I've ordered some to see if they help along side these people. Xx

Hi @Mummylaura1988

Headaches are common as the drugs work by stimulating your pituitary to increase production of LH and FSH - so this is probably the cause of your headaches, rather than your previous neurosurgery (although, if these are prolonged, or have any warning flags such as morning headaches or vomiting, please see your GP as cysts can very occasionally recur).

In terms of other supplements, unfortunately there is very little scientific evidence to support their use - otherwise fertility clinics would be recommending them and handing them out like smarties. There are always going to people who are delighted because they have taken them and had success. It may be that for a very small number of people, they do make a difference. But for many, they probably would have conceived anyway. The only "powered" evidence is for taking folic acid. If you have a healthy diet, there probably isn't a huge amount of benefit to even pregnacare type vitamins, although I take them as I have crohns and potentially impaired absorption of nutrients and would normally be taking a multivitamin anyway.

@Anaesthetist83, Thanks so much for your advise there..sounds like you know what your talking about. I had a meeting with my consultant yesterday and thankfully nothing sinister is going on so that's always a good thing it really is only just headaches that I'm experiencing.

I'm going to try the new supplements that I have ordered when they arrive it can't do me any harm to try them. I'm litterly at that point where I will try anything.

Xx

Mrsallenxo · 15/10/2019 23:53

I have just finished my second month on letrozole & it was unsuccessful for me unfortunately

Goingbacktokansascity · 16/10/2019 08:36
