Had a gyn/infertility appointment in 2 weeks from gp referal. Had tests at gp then referred to gyn at the hospital to see the specialist. Been waiting 3 months for the appointment and it’s now been cancelled and swapped to June!
I’m so upset and angry how can they cancel
And make us wait so long for just one appointment. That means 8 months just for one appointment it’s ridiculous. I know there’s a referal
Booking system now and going to get the number for ours off my doctor
Tomorow to see if there are any earlier. Has this happened to anyone on here? I just can’t believe it.

I'm so sorry to hear that @Donnas146. I think you're going to the same clinic as I'll be going to. Dh's SA was postponed to March but he's had it done privately. The reason given was not enough staff. Ironically he could've got in as a private NHS patient next week.

I think trying to speak with them is the best thing. Perhaps you'll get a cancellation. I'm sorry this has happened for you Flowers

Italiangreyhound · 25/01/2019 08:20

This must be very hard. No advice except to call and see of there is s cancellation, especially if you can get away at short notice.

My clinic changed my appointments a lot and it drove me bonkers as I'd build up in my head what could/ would/ might happen at each appointment. It really fucked with my head! But never by five months!!! I'd be ringing the clinic twice a week trying for a cancellation. Maybe if they get sick of hearing from you (in a nice way) they'll fit you in..?

Are there any other clinics you could be referred to?

At least in the meantime you might be able to use their counselling services? For me, it was a year between referral and the start of ivf (as nothing else worked), so the first appointment is only the start (unless you know you need icsi). So be prepared for more waiting even after the appointment.

If your are has an ivf waiting list it could even be longer to get treatment...

So what I'm saying is be patient, but persistent to get the help you need - infertility is literally the worst!!

Hi ladies Thankyou so much for your replies
I’ve rang my doctors and the receptionist is going to look into any earlier appointments at other clinics so fingers crossed something will come up. As I really feel I can’t wait till June without more stress, it’s really made me have no faith in it all as I just want to get the ball rolling and this appointment was the start of it. Sick of feeling anxious about it all and feeling like we are getting nowhere. Thankfully time is on our side but I can’t help being so impatient especially after waiting months already just to be referred. Just waiting for the receptionist to call back now.

I have had counselling sessions but don’t fond they help much, I think it’s having no control or timescale over the situation that just makes it so much worse, I also have to watch friends/family go onto have 2-3 children in all the years we’ve been trying for our first that’s so hard on me emotionally. I can’t bear to even look at babies adverts or anything baby/pregnancy related on tv/social media and it’s just everywhere. I feel
Like I’m In a nightmare and can’t get out. I’m trying to focus on losing weight and getting fit and healthy but the thoughts and reminders are still there. If this hasn’t of happened with the appointment I would have been feeling at least a bit better about the whole thing. Thanks again x

I was going to say look at other hospitals. I work in a hospital and haven't gone there for fertility stuff because I didn't feel comfortable with it, but coincidentally the wait where I work is far, far longer. Hope you are seen soon OP.

I saw a consult who then ordered sperm analysis and a hycosy. Few months after that we had a follow up and I've now been given clomid. They know I have PCOS as that was discovered before I got to the consultant so I'm also on metformin for that.

That's fabulous news. Good luck. Thanks

VenusStarr · 25/01/2019 14:02

That's great news, pleased you've not got long to wait :)

physicskate · 25/01/2019 14:08

Oh that's great news!!

Anything you can do to make the process more manageable for you is what you should try (and ignoring or discarding what has worked for others but wouldn't work for you is a good idea!!!). Mindfulness. Yoga. Antidepressants. High intensity exercise. Acupuncture. Wine. Long walks... anything that helps, really!!!

Donnas146 · 25/01/2019 15:24

@Donnas146 we’re just about to start our ivf at the Birmingham woman’s! I’m really glad you’ve managed to get in for the end of Feb, that’s really good news.
The slowest part for us was waiting for the nhs funding to come through, but once we had that we felt like the appointments were fairly quick. Group session before Christmas, month later our consent signing one. So fingers crossed they get moving for you too.

Donnas146 · 25/01/2019 21:14

Did you have your gyn/infertility appointment there too brambles7? So glad your starting soon wish you all the luck x
And how long did it take from tests to be referred for ivf? X

Thank you @Donnas146!
We had our gyn appointments at Good Hope, our local. They referred us on in July, initial app in Sept - so about 6 weeks to wait for letter, then 6 weeks from letter to appointment. funding was confirmed in Nov, group session Dec. Bham women’s make everyone do the group session to get all the info on ivf before the consent app. I guess that’s their way of speeding the process up. It all feels so slow when you’re waiting for it!
