Hi, Can an expired implant (2 years) still be stopping me becoming pregnant?

Do you mean one that should have been taken out 2 years ago but didn't?

I don't know if it would still be effective in stopping pregnancy (I'm guessing not, which is why you have to have them changed) but it may not be helping either.

The contraceptive implant is licensed for use for 3 years. After this, it does not just suddenly switch off, but rather than amount of progestogen released dips below the threshold which is considered necessary to reliably and consistently suppress ovulation. If you still have an implant in situ that is 2 years out of date then you are likely still receiving a continuous, low dose of progestogen from it and this could have an impact on your fertility while it remains in place (although by this would would absolutely not be a reliable form of contraception).
If you want to get pregnant, you should get the implant taken out.
