GP won't refer - 15 months in

Just need a bit of a rant. Started fertility testing in November as we'd been unsuccessfully ttc for a year. Sent for bloods and swabs, all OK. Had a scan which showed fibroids that could be blocking my tubes. Dh was due his SA last week but the clinic rearranged this to March before Christmas. Saw the GP today and was sure he'd at least refer me to gynecology due to the scan results. But he won't until my dh has had his SA.

We asked if we went private for the test would that help, be said he'd accept it but was unsure if the NHS fertility clinic would.

So we're in limbo. I found a local private clinic that can offer same day results and he can get in within the best week. But don't want to waste money if the NHS won't accept / recognise them. Also unsure if my dh will even get his apt in March as the resin given was staffing issues.

I'm so frustrated and sad that we can't even get in the door to find out what the issue is. I understand the pressures of the NHS (I work in the NHS and I value it) but I'm so deflated and sad.

Anybody else trying to navigate to ye unknown and want to rant? Or any advice?

We just went private. It's a lot of money but it meant that everything happened quickly. We TTC for 12 months, went to a private clinic and started IVF around two- three months later (delayed only because we wanted to go on a planned holiday first and then had to wait for my cycle). Infertility is horribly stressful and the fact that things happened quickly made things a little better. We were referred to the NHS too (our GP did accept my private investigations) but by the time our first appointment came through with the fertility clinic, we had already had a cycle of IVF privately and were pregnant. It is expensive, but I don't regret it at all. If the first cycle hadn't worked i would have had FET privately with the same clinic - their location was really convenient for our busy jobs - and we found them to be efficient and convenient.

*efficient and competent, that was meant to say.

Thank you @Brambles7, the results seem OK, motility and progressive motility are slightly below average, by a couple of percent so jot sure how significant that is. He had over 400million in the sample though, if only one could meet my egg!

Thank you @Wesstywoo, have you started ivf?

Congratulations @cannonball8726 I don't really know how private would work if I need surgery. I'll drop the results at the GP tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed. We are saving just in case though.

@VenusStarr that sounds quite positive! They gave numbers on my OHs test that he needed to be above which gave us an indication of where he’s at, so as long as they’re above those, sounds like sperm should be okay hopefully!
How are you doing now that’s done? What’s your next step?

It's funny, I feel OK about things at the moment @Brambles7, definitely less panicked and hopeless. We had a nice weekend together and were distracted. It was nice just to get on with things.

I've dropped the results at the GP and explained to the receptionist and she said she'd make sure the doctor got them. I'll still check later this week, haha!

@VenusStarr I’m glad you had a nice weekend together and had some distractions. Can make all the difference. Fingers crossed the gp has the results safe now and everything progresses for you.
