Losing weight for IVF

Hello, I just wondered if anyone has had to lose weight in order to be eligible for NHS funded IVF? I've been told I need to lose 20lb by June/July - around 6 months time - so that we can go ahead with the treatment.
(Current BMI of 32)
If anyone has any weight loss hints or tips, or any other experiences in this department would be amazing! Smile Feeling a little out of my depth with the whole infertility thing tbh Sad x

I lost a stone and a half in about two months with weight watchers (was overweight and went to 'average'). Honestly, losing weight can make a huge difference to fertility (fat is an endocrine disruptor) so you've just got to do it. Low carb/ sugar can help.

Low Carb bootcamp is hugely successful- there’s a whole sub forum for it on here. I lost a stone in 8 weeks, down from bmi 27 ish to 24, and have kept it off for the past year. Best of luck OP, having that mid year June/July date will be a huge motivating factor to keep your willpower on track

Slimming world is really good. A lot of friends have lost a lot and kept it off.

Really good luck x

Do you have PCOS (just guessing because of fertility issues and over-weight)? Low carb works well for PCOS, better than other types of diet worked for me, both for weight loss and for improving fertility. Also, while I was having IVF I gave up caffeine for one of the rounds, and that was the only round that I conceived from.

If you have good willpower and are determined then you could try Michael Mosley's 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet. Or the 5:2 Diet might be easier for you, although slower.

Really recommend the body coach - jo wicks. It costs £90 to sign up, has a Facebook support group and gets you to lose weight and get healthily fit which will support your IVF. It is a commitment though; any weight loss is. Good luck!

I had to lose weight for IVF and I used a combination of MFP and the 5:2, I found the 5:2 fairly straight forward and just backed it up with MFP to make sure I didn't go to crackers on calories. I lost the weight I needed and I'm now 28 weeks following our first round of IVF. Good luck x
