Testing for if tubes are blocked?

Hi everyone, I’ve been for my referred appointment today as we’ve been trying to get pregnant for over a year now. She’s told me I’ve got to go have my tubes checked see if they are blocked, just wondered if anyone has been? And what happens next? Did anyone get pregnant after having this done ?

Had it done twice, fell pregnant straight after both times. My consultant uses it as the first routine investigation as it's so successful.

Hi everyone, just a quick question about the test again, do you go into the room alone ? Or do they let your partner in too? I’ve got my test on Monday and I’m a little scared

When I had my hycosy, my husband stayed in a waiting area and then I went through to the procedure room - they wouldn’t let him come. There was the consultant and the nurse both there though which was helpful x

Maximoo06 · 08/11/2018 23:19

Yes my partner waited in the waiting area, there was a doctor and an assistant nurse who kept checking I was okay

You go in on your own - partner can’t come
in because of exposing him to x-rays but there will be 2 members of staff, one doing the business bit and one supporting you and pressing the buttons. They were lovely.

Had mine after just under 2 years of TTC. Kept putting it off as I thought we were just unlucky/poor timing. Didn’t think I had any risk factors for blocked tubes, no surgery, no STIs, no problematic periods to make me think endometriosis.

Wasn’t too bad, worse than a smear. Took painkillers before, bit of faffing during it. Picture looked nice and clear. I got pregnant the cycle after despite me thinking there was no way in hell as I’d had a crazy stressful month. I was gutted because I had it done later in my cycle so knew that month was out, then the next cycle my life was just chaos so thought we’d missed out on this supposed surge in fertility. Found out 2 weeks before our IVF appointment.

If it is a tube issue then as someone says above - IVF does get around that. And there do seem to be a few of us who have got lucky shortly afterwards.

Did everyone get there results straight away? I’ve been for my HSG today and got to wait for results 😖☹️

Is the HSG the same as a hycosy? Regardless both my hycosy and laparoscopy- I got basic results/explanation that day with further info in a follow up later (a written report after hycosy and a consultation after lap) x

Stacey2007 · 12/11/2018 20:22

I’m not sure 🙉 did you ☹️ I’m so worried because she never said anything to me, apart from you’ve made your other appointment haven’t you? I’m kicking myself for just not asking ☹️☹️ X

I’ve just looked online and a hycosy uses ultrasound and HSG uses X-ray. It was quite obvious what the result of mine was as the nurse was saying in real time ‘there’s resistance etc etc and I was still in the procedure room when the consultant explained that the dye was not able to pass through....

Smiler88 · 12/11/2018 22:11

@monkerina - do you mind if I ask how you got it done on the NHS? Just I had one privately before my first born but couldn't afford it again and really think it helped me conceive. I have low amh but am less than 35, so would like to get it done on the NHS if possible.

Thelonggrass · 13/11/2018 10:02

Hi they wouldn’t tell me anything, and I asked a couple of times in a couple of different ways! Said I had to wait for appointment.

Kay2705 · 13/11/2018 10:05

Hi there,

I've had a hycosy to check if my tubes were blocked as it was taking a while to get pregnant. I got the result at the appointment. People always says it flushes stuff out and can help get pregnant the cycle or next. I got pregnant the cycle after(ended in mc)

DianaBlythe · 13/11/2018 10:24

The radiographers said to me if it was obvious they’d tell me and there would be a formal report later, if it needed the radiologist to interpret then they wouldn’t. As it was they were able to say and then the fertility nurse wrote to me after the formal report was through.

@Smiler88 just visit your gp theyl investigate your fertility but if youv already had your bloods etc done in the past it might make the process a bit quicker for u fx
