Hi,

My husband and I have been TTC for nearly 2 years and have done all the tests and have unexplained infertility. We have just got approved for IUI or IVF and our appointment for the scan, follicle count, another sperm test etc is next week. However I did a few pg tests last week and they were all positive!!! But now my period is starting (a few days late). I have clearly had a chemical pregnancy but I am unsure on what to do. Do I tell the doc/specialists that ironically after all this time I managed to conceive? But then would I have to wait another 2 years to be eligible for IUI/IVF or would i not be eligible at all? Would there even be any point having IUI or IVF if I can actually conceive naturally (even though it has taken SO long)? Never had a positive test before...

Thanks to anyone that replies

Thank you everyone for all your replies. It's soooo hard to know what to do. I guess I'm just hoping that this will make me more fertile so I don't have to go through with ART but equally I don't want to waste more years x

I'd not say anything and have 1 round of iui. Double check you're not just bleeding during pregnancy though!

Hi @Zest11

How are you getting on? Are your tests still positive? X

Zest11 · 30/09/2018 18:54

Hi @hoping2018 thank you for checking in. I haven't done any tests for a good few days as I ran out! I have had a full blown period though so that's my answer really. Feeling more positive though as this has told me I CAN actually get pregnant and hopefully IUI will speed things along so I don't have to wait 2 years again. How are you??

As others have said, I would caution against assuming that you’re definitely not pregnant, without a negative test to confirm it. I bled for 7 weeks non stop with my DD. My best friend had periods with both her children during her first trimester.

Hi @Zest11, sorry you've got what seems to be a period - that does seem fairly conclusive. As pp said I would do a oregnancy test to make sure it's negative and nothing seems to be retained. X

Thank you @SnowBambino and @hoping2018. I will do one towards the end of the week to make sure it's all gone. Apparently they can stay positive for up to 2 weeks. I will keep you all updated xx

For anyone that was following the positive line has gradually faded. I had my appt this week and I was scanned and nobody mentioned anything so I assume it had all gone. We will be starting IUI before IVF. I got some blood results back and my AMH was only 11 although they didn't seem concerned...I just got home and googled and apparently it's at the lower end of normal. I'm only 30....does that mean I'm going to have the menopause in just a few years and could it be why we have found it so hard to get pregnant naturally?

Hi @Zest11, sorry to hear about the chemical pregnancy - I can't imagine the excitement then Disappointment.

My AMH was 8 aged 31 and I got 22 eggs on both cycles of ivf so although I was technically in the bottom 5% of AMH range it didn't predict the number of eggs. You have to consider FSH, age and Antral follicle count too. The best marker of how many eggs you have is how you respond to the drugs they give.

It apparently doesn't predict when the menopause will be and won't be the reason you haven't gotten pregnant. It's more just a marker of how many eggs to expect with ivf and helps them judge how much drug to give you.

Best of luck x

Thank you for replying hoping2018. That's really positive to hear your amh score and number of eggs collected...thank you for that. Smile x
