I’m sorry of this has been asked on here before but couldn’t find a recent thread. I’m 36 and we’ve been trying for over 2 years. We’re going today to our first follow up appointment after our initial tests and I’m not sure what to expect or what to ask. We had 3day & 21day bloods and I had a hsg test, my DH had his sperm checked.

I’m so nervous about the results, can anyone tell me what to expect? If we need ivf will they us today or is normal to have more tests? I feel so nervous & scared

I hope today went ok for you! I think the only other test I had was the one to make sure my tubes were all clear. Hopefully everything was explained at your appointment and you have a clear plan in place xx

Bump, I’d like to know this too. I’m waiting for the same test results x

Sorry you’re going through this! It’s shit isn’t it x

Oh sorry just re-read that you went today. How did you get on? Xxx

Have you had rubella tests?

There are always more tests... it just depends if anything awry was indicative in the tests so far...

@bunbunbunny how did you get on? We have our first appointment next month and I'm wondering what they do? We have pretty much already made our minds up that we need ivf regardless. I've done lots of research and I can't see how else we can make it happen apart from just keep trying and cross fingers but I'm 38 in 6 months and don't want to be in the same position in a year's time. We are looking to have IVF in January as we will have to go private anyway. I'm sorry if you've had bad news today xx

Hi sorry for slow reply still digesting the results. I need to have a further scan as I have regular periods but they seem really light to me. They need to check the thickness of my lining, consultant was disappointed I never had the scan as it was in my notes to have one but it wasn’t booked. The consultant said my results were normal for my age and that the results show I’m ovulating. The HSG however showed I have one blocked tube, which halves our chances to conceive naturally. I need to go back in six weeks to confirm what our plan will be, he said we could spend six months on clomid but the blocked tube will still be blocked so may not work. He thinks the best bet is to go straight to IVF which will be private as my DH has a 16 yr old DD. He said we could operate on the tube but it’s major surgery and no guarantee it will work. I don’t think surgery is worth the risk in the long run. I am overweight so part of me is thinking try the clomid to give myself a chance to loose weight and be in the best health for IVF.

Just in a bit of shock as there wasn’t a 100% reason why we’re not pregnant I was hoping there would be so we could fix it but not straight forward which I guess will be the case for IVF!

I’ve googled my results and they’re saying low fertility but my consultant was certain they were fine for my age.

Results were
AMA - 7.7
FSH - 9.6
Prog - 20
TSH - 2.7

DH sperm count was 35m with 70% mobility

My consultant is really good so I feel I should trust him instead of googling everything Blush but got so much doubt now!

I don’t think I had rubella test, had lots of bloods done on day three but didn’t see mention of it in my notes

I went through all sorts of testing when we were trying for our first (this is going back 10 years now). I had to the FSH blood test (which is the CD2-5 one), then I had the CD21 blood test. Both those came back fine. My husband had to have a sperm count test. His came back slightly lower than normal, but the fertility specialist said she's known of people with much lower counts who have had children naturally. I'm sure his count was something like 20 million (or maybe 17, I can't remember).

I also had an HSG to check my tubes weren't blocked, an internal scan of my ovaries and a lap and dye. Everything came back normal for me. All this testing went on over quite a long period of time. We went to the doctors to get the ball rolling on all the testing after a year of trying, then it took about 10 months to get all our initial tests completed. I remember the fertility specialist saying that my husband's sperm count should be enough to get me pregnant "but clearly it's not" so she put me on the IVF register. I'm sure I was on this for nearly 2 years before I got the call to go in to start the process. By that time, I couldn't go in because I was about 6 weeks pregnant with my eldest.

I have 2 friends who have both lost one tube due to ectopic pregnancies and both didn't really struggle to conceive, so fingers crossed the clomid helps.
