Has anyone experienced a cyst during a baseline scan?

If so, what happened to your cycle?

I’m 36 and suffering from secondary infertility. After 24 cycles of nothingness whilst ttc #2, we’ve finally bitten the bullet. I started down regging using Synarel/ Nafrelin nasal spray two weeks ago. AF started last Friday, and today I had my baseline scan, where they found a 4cm cyst on my right ovary. My cycles are usually ridiculously regular and I’ve never had cysts before so my assumption is that this one has been caused by down regging.

I’ve been told to keep down regging until Thursday and they’ll then scan me again.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? What was the outcome? Is the writing on the wall for this cycle? Feeling pretty gutted to be honest. We can’t cycle in September as we’re going on holiday and October is likely to be much tougher from a work perspective...

I've had a cyst seen at my last 3 cycles. They've taken a hormone profile to see if it's affecting oestrogen levels (I think). If it had been the cycle would have been cancelled as apparently wouldn't stimulate properly. But hormones were normal so the cycles continued as planned.

Thanks for replying Isittimeforbed. Blood tests revealed that my cyst is producing oestrogen, so I guess my only hope is that it starts shrinking...

Hi @Cariad2017 I have had cysts at the start of both my IVF cycles and was allowed to start. It may depend on how much it is producing. Also my first IVF clinic just went in and drained the cyst on day 4 of my cycle - but I know that they are very unusual in doing that...

I was on short protocols both times so no down-regging

That’s really interesting JaneFX. Aspiration hasn’t been mentioned, and it strikes me as though it’s not common practice. I shall report back as to the advice I get after tomorrow’s scan.

Hi, i had a cycle cancelled in April because of a baseline cyst - was told that the risk is that it would physically crowd out the other follicles from developing. But I was older (41) and doing a short protocol and so had only been taking oral norethisterone and not down-regging. They did offer to aspirate it or for me to start again next cycle. I was self-funding and so In the interest of saving a lot of money by not risking wasting my stim drugs or paying for an aspiration, i opted for cancelling that cycle. No problems the following month. It's so disheartening when it gets cancelled, but in retrospect far better than starting the stims and then being cancelled (which depending on when they cancel might even forfeit IVF costs as well as the drugs too). If they could have aspirated it for free I would have considered it! Good luck.

I have been cancelled twice with high E2 and cysts on down reg recip cycles, both times I took norethisterine to induce a bleed then carried on
