Normal thyroid range for ivf

Hi ladies,

I have had two failed ivf cycles this year and have switched clinics. The new clinic is questioning my thyroid which was supposedly in the normal range according to GP but just seen that my TSH is 4.09 which looks at the very top of the range (and I’ve really struggled with weight gain in last year).
Please can anyone advise what they should be if they’ve faced a similar thing?
Thanks
Jenni

That's too high for ivf. Mine was 3.8 and I was put on thyroxine before my clinic would start ivf. Find the NICE guidelines on line. I'm sure they say under 2.5 is optimal for conception and successful pregnancy. I've been on thyroxine ever since and feel so much better for it- I have more energy with 3 little kids than I did with none, thanks to getting it sorted. Good luck

Thanks so much for your response, I’m very annoyed I have wasted the last year going through the heartbreak of failed treatment with this undetected! Excited to start thyroxine!!

A lot of GPs don't have a good understanding of thyroid levels and implicts on fertility unfortunately, so your GP wasn't wrong as such, just under informed. In other countries "normal" is a much lower range, under 2.5 even!

Hope you find a doctor to help you get it sorted. And hope your next Ivf is a success. It's such a hard process to go through. 2 failed round must have been heartbreaking.

It might not have been because of the thyroid though, as people can get and stay pregnant with high TSH levels. So don't beat yourself up about it. Sometimes it's just shitty luck.

I had this conversation with my consultant. They like it below 2.5 if TTC. Mine was 3.5 which for a non TTC person is normal. So your GP wasn't wrong as such. Good luck for the next cycle.
