IVF Medication - Purchase direct from clinic or else where?

Hello Lovely Ladies,

Starting first round of IVF next month, paying privately so looking to save money where at all possible.

I have seen a lot of UK based internet sites you can order from and have heard that ASDA for example sell IVF drugs at cost price?

Or is it just easier to buy direct from the clinic?

Would love any tips/stories on what other people did?

Pros and Cons?

Many thanks

Hi there!!!! ASDA is for sure my go to when I had to buy my IVF meds. I've done few rounds and costs add up very quickly. You just need to ask your clinic to have your prescription in advance as ASDA might need few days to get them. We saved quite a lot of money going there and I would really recommend to do the same! X

@street80 Many thanks for your response, very useful to hear you found ASDA better for price and the tip they may need a couple of days to get things in, at the end of the day its all the same stuff and every penny counts with IVF. I have heard Boots soemtimes price match so I will look into that too.

How do you order the needles etc?

Many thanks xxx

For me, Boots was way more expensive. Asda are at cost so can't really bit that! The difference depends on the meds but the more expensive they are, the better deal you will found at Asda. I had to take Gonal F and Menopur and we save a lot of money by not going to Boots. I dug up my receipts for you and for exemple: 1 box of menopur (1200iu) was charged £355.96 at Boots and I paid £288.29 at Asda. ( I had crazy amount of meds and dosage, don't be scared!!) The only meds I bought at Boots were the "cheap" one like Ovitrelle (£12.50) and Buserelin. The needles, box and everything else were provided for free by my clinic... I know every treatment is different and you probably will have different medication, but just to give you an idea of the difference of pricing. Maybe have a chat with your clinic about what type of medication they think for you and investigate different locations. Hope this help!!

Hi. I was wondering if you had any luck ordering Humira from Asda at all? I’ve tried loads of different pharmacies including Boots, Lloyds and private hospital pharmacies but each time I’m told that they can’t fulfil the order, so I’m curious about Asda. Thanks x

I asked at my hospital and the consultant told us that we had to use their company. Has anyone else challenged this and managed to use the pharmacy of their choice?

My meds were cheaper from the clinic.

I bought mine from an online pharmacy called Fertility2u, they were half the cost that Asda quoted me £550 Vs £1.2k

I looked in to this alot!

I brought all mine direct from my clinic as after checking the prices against ASDA, BOOTS etc the price difference was very small, but I have heard of some clinics really rip you off so always best to check.

I have also heard of people buying too much and not using it which ends up being a waste of money, my drugs changed a few times so be weary!

Most clinics allow some unused meds to be resold via authorized schemes: mine also buys stuff back that doesn’t need the fridge
