2.5 years trying. Officially diagnosed with Male Factor infertility about 6 months ago. First SA showed low everything, antisperm antibodies etc but I was never given the values. Were told ICSI was our only option.

Second SA results back today ( see attached photos). It’s all just so garbled and makes no sense to me. We’re still waiting for our fertility clinic referral ( 5 months and counting - lost bloods, lack of communication between GP and clinic).

If anyone could take a look, I’d be really grateful - feeling very deflated.

Hi babes I would just like to say I know exactly what your going thru, me and my partner struggled with male factor infertility for 5 years and 2 years before that I thought it was me so I was going thru treatment/investigation and I just want to offer you a handhold and a massive hug!
We got told our chances of conceiving naturally where next to nothing and got told IVFi-ICSI was our only option and we would have to go private
Sorry I'm no use at deciphering difficult letters, I'll try and attach my partners results
....
These where my other half's results, and I'm glad to say I'm now nearly 19 weeks pregnant with a little boy... so never give up hope hunni and stay strong xxxx

december thank you so much for your reply, it means a lot. Your numbers look quite similar to mine! did you end up doing IVF in the end?

No babes completely natural such a shock!! Lol
My partner took a multivitamin and started going the gym every other day, and we tried everything to conceive honestly! Pre-seed, moon cups... upside down after the deed you name it we did it 😂
And yano what! You will probably hear this all the time but... the month we fell pregnant we didn't "try" we where sort of having a month off from all the trying and heartache and it just happened 😁

Ohh also forgot to mention my partner had a varicocele and had an op to fix it... maybe something you could mention to your fertility specialist to look out for, it's really common too in men

My dh has MFI too. They've recommended ICSI because there are too few sperm.

Where it says total sperm count your dh has 7.4 million and needs to have 39 for them to think there is a good chance at natural conception. Remember, it's entirely normal for men to have 300 million so 7.4 is quite low. Same with sperm concentration. It should be 15 million but he has 3.9 million.
It doesn't mean there is no chance naturally but it depends on how long you want to wait and see. That being said my dh had similar results to you and I am now 6 weeks with a natural pregnancy (after 3 failed ICSI). We've been trying 3.5 years.

They have recommended ICSI over IVF bc with ICSI they inject the sperm into the egg. With normal IVF they just put some in a dish with the eggs and hope one finds it. Because the sperm concentration is low they would be concerned there aren't enough sperm to find the eggs and fertilise with IVF. ICSI guarantees a sperm will find the egg and gives the best chance at fertilisation. The downside is you lose out on the natural selection of IVF.

Hi @justwaitingforaline. I am by no means an expert, but having mfi ourselves dh and I have done a lot of reading about sperm!

I noticed that the sample was 42mins old when tested which may have some effect. The sooner the better for testing as sperm is very very sensitive to any changes in temperature like when driving it to the lab.

The volume (how much) and ph are normal.

Motility is how many move forward. It should be 32% and your dh has 30% . Non progressive means they move but don't go forward, and non module means they don't move.

The concentration is how many milliom sperm per ml. Your dh has 3.9million and it should be 15million.

As a pp said, the total count is 7.5million and should be 15million.

Morphology is how many are the right shape. Your dh has less than 1% and should be 4%.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the summary - it basically repeats this information with longer words! What it does say is that there may also be a problem with antisperm antibodies but there wasn't enough sperm to test for this properly.

They suggest that there could be transport issues (something going a bit wrong in his tubes) and also talked about excessive heat.

They said that the sample could be used for if so.

Did he make any lifestyle changes after the first test? My dh also had low results in most areas and changed to boxers, stopped hot baths and doesn't use a laptop on his lap. We did various research into supplements which help motility, morphology or count and he takes a good fertility supplement, antioxidants, vitamin c, coq10, folic acid and a few other things I can't remember. Tribulus for antisperm antibodies. He has also reduced alcohol and stopped caffeine. His last test was much better but the antibodies are still a problem and we will likely need icsi. Because of the changes he's made, as least they will have more to choose from!!

I echo what the others have said here. Low motility, low sperm count, low morphology. Sounds just like us a few years ago.
Our consultant also said ICSI was the only option.
On the positive side, male factor problems are much easier to deal with than female ones and your chance of success is high.
Good luck with whatever comes next. Infertility sucks x
