GP Conception Referral issues

Hi all, first time here (so be nice!)
We've been trying to conceive now for last 18-20 months and still no joy. Last October we both got checked out, and advised everything seemed to be functioning as it should, however since then we have had no joy.
Went to see the doctor today to get referred onto a specialist, and they've advised because we moved house last year we have to live in this county 2 years before they'll refer us?? I feel discriminated against, (and also so frustrated) that because of our movements 'Geographically' (all in UK) we're being punished and denied a treatment .
As a tax payer, surely it's the NHS I'm paying into that fund this, not the county or council?
Any tips or real life experiences from you all would be helpful.

Unfortunately, each ccg has their own ivf criteria and many require having ttc for two years, but some for three. I'd still suggest pushing for a fertility clinic referral because ivf isn't the only thing they might try. But honestly, the nhs is so strapped for cash they do quite a lot to delay your treatment in the hopes you will get pregnant naturally (which is kinda the point). If you got pregnant without intervention, then hey presto! Also waiting means a lot of people become too old to meet the criteria.

Would going private be an option?

Morning PK, thank you so much for the reply. It's really difficult to find the right advice and was hoping this may be the appropriate forum. I have no idea how private works, are you able to link me to options?

I work in healthcare and have been through ivf and that doesn't sound right.

I would ask the gp for a copy of the guidelines where the gp got that from.

My DH and I came up against a couple of problems with our GP and had a lot of success in pestering them and writing formal letters. Looking up guidelines ourselves and putting them into the letters.

You can often search for your CCG guidelines yourself on line.

Persevere!

Good luck
